Richard Hyatt
Norwood
June 18, 1943 – December 28, 2019
Richard Hyatt Norwood Jr., 76, of Pasadena, California passed away December 28, 2019 at his home in Laguna Niguel. He was born on June 18, 1943 to Richard Norwood Sr. and Pauline Norwood. On June 26th, 1971 he married Lyn Norwood.
In high school Richard was an exceptional gymnast. In 1961 Richard joined the army and earned a spot in the elite ranks of the Green Beret, serving as a medic in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal when, on December 21, 1966 he distinguished himself by recovering the bodies of four comrades killed on a previous mission from behind enemy lines. He was known by his army buddies as someone who was fearless under fire and showed respect to all. After his service he maintained a lifelong ethic of fitness, going to the gym almost daily, running marathons, being an avid cyclist, and coaching his daughters sports teams. He studied literature in college and remained an avid reader his entire life. His thirst for learning led him to return to school later in life to continue education in history, politics, and French. He spent most of his vocational career in sales and was a vice president and sales manager for many years for Haggar Slacks working in both the United States and the UK, and helping them become the #1 pants brand in America.
He is survived by his wife Lyn, his son, Tom (Valerie) Norwood, daughter Jennifer (Matt) Norwood Stevens, brother Thomas, sister Anne, and Grandchildren, Caden, Charlie, Logan, and Colin.
