Obituary

Richard Miles Allen, born May 12, 1945 in Los Angeles, passed away unexpectedly June 14, 2014. Rich was the youngest son of Marion and Phyllis (ne Sorenson) Allen, and brother of Jeffrey Allen.

He attended Morningside High School in Inglewood graduating in 1963. After high school, he spent a year traveling through Europe in a VW bus and by motorcycle. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his education and received a Bachelors degree in Economics from Sacramento State University circa 1970.

Rich embraced life with both hands. He was quick to laugh and even quicker to forgive. His passions included cooking, motorcycles, tennis and staying fit. He was known for his loving kindness and wicked sense of humor. In 2005, he married the love of his life, Teri Fitzpatrick. Together they traveled the world visiting such places as Machu Pichu, the Great Wall of China, Tibet, Japan, Ireland, Paris and the Amazon. At home in Rancho Santa Margarita they often welcomed their large extended family and friends and also enjoyed their desert home in La Quinta California.

Rich’s sons Mark (Wendy) and Madison (Mieke) have blessed the family with five grandchildren: Jake, Trevor, Bryce, Milyes and Mason. Richard was also stepfather to Lauren Younce and Avery Francis, as well as grandchildren Skyler and Marley.

In 1983, Rich became a successful entrepreneur founding Select Equipment Sales, Inc. in Buena Park, which is now operated by his sons.

I was blessed to know Richard and Renee Allen for the last 27 years through their sons Mark and Madison. Richard was a wonderful man who left us too soon. God bless all his family and friends.

  2. Richard always offered a smile and a hug and was always generous. I remember when Mark and Madison were in high school and a bunch of us were invited to hang out at the beach house the Allen’s had rented during the summer and we all had a great time. He loved being with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. God bless Allen family. Richard’s great legacy will continue through you.

  3. I have known Rich Allen since I was 15 when Wendy and I met the Allen family. (17 years ago…ok, for this I’ll admit it, 27 years ago, but I look young) and Rich was always kind and funny and generous to me. I am so very sorry for his family and I just hope that knowing he got to see his two sons grow up, get married and have amazing children of their own is comforting. To all of the Allen’s I love you like my own family! I hope that happy memories can soon prevail over your loss! Love, Katy!

Although we only have known Richard in the latter years we learned what a wonderful person he was. Out here in the Desert he became our best friend. We enjoyed traveling to Mexico and to Peru with Rich and Terri. Every where he went he made friends and people were delighted by his charm and charisma. We have all suffered a great loss.

I am beyond words sorry to hear about your sudden loss 🙁 There just isn’t anything appropriate to say other than “I’m so sorry”…. Only time can heal the pain but he will forever live in your heart, mind & soul! I would really love to be there today for you but circumstances won’t allow it, I hope you understand 🙂 I will be mourning & praying though with you! I love you and I love your family! Stay strong!! xxxooo (I hope the flowers make it there) Love, Raina
