In Loving Memory of Ricardo (Ricky) A. Vivas

Ricky Vivas, age 60, passed away peacefully, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his own home in Laguna Niguel, California, as he wished. Ricky was born December 2, 1959 in Lima, Peru to Jose Vivas and Lucy Justo de Vivas.
He went to Champagnat school in Miraflores, Peru, where he was very much loved and recognized for his academic achievements and his athletic abilities, reason why he was also known as Astroboy.
He came to study in the U.S., where he graduated as an engineer from Chico State University in Chico, California. With hard work and tremendous effort, he became a successful professional on his field.
Ricky is survived by his children, Ricardo D. and Paula M. Vivas, who were the most important thing is his life. He is also survived by his siblings Jose (Tino) and Lucy Vivas de Casis.
He leaves behind a countless number of long-life friends, who will always remember his determined spirit and his generous heart.
He was always successful in any sport he played, and you could find him surfing the local waves, or playing soccer at the field, especially coaching his children Ricardo and Paula and their teams.
His funeral services will be held privately at O’Connor Mortuary on April 21, 2020.

Ricardo was my first mentor out of college. He guided me into the world of hydraulic modeling. He took me to client meetings and he taught me how to work through the challenging problems at work. I remember he took me to a Peruvian restaurant at the first week at my first job out of college. I was nervous all the time that week, but he was so much fun and easy-going, told me his stories growing up in Peru, and I felt welcomed and relaxed. I still go to that Peruvian restaurant from time to time, and every time I went there I think of Ricardo. I miss his laughter at the foosball table in the office. May heaven has a beautiful beach that he loves.

Hi, everyone. I knew Ricky in Chico in the 80s. We played guitars and sang together. We had so much fun and taught each other stuff we each really liked. It was a magical time and Ricky Vivas is HUGE in my mind and my heart and will always be. What a guy. If anyone wants to hear any fun stories about our “gigs” at that time I’m more than happy to share. I remember most of them, and what I do remember is all great. I regret that I didn’t stay in touch for more than a few years after Chico.

I met Ricardo for the first time at a work related/client dinner. I just remember thinking “this guy is really fun to hang out with!”. We laughed all night, which I needed at the time. Since then we worked together many times, and had a lot of fun doing it.
My last memory of Ricky was very special, at a party with a lot of people around that loved him. He seemed more at ease that day than I’d seen him in a long time and I’m thankful I got to spend some time with him and meet his family. He was good hearted, a sharp engineer, and just a lot of fun to be around.
