In Loving Memory of Reynaldo Frias
May 14, 1931 – October 29, 2026
It is with profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Reynaldo Frias, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, engineer, and friend on October 29, 2026.
Born on May 14, 1931, Reynaldo (Rey) lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and a passion for learning. He attended Loyola University Los Angeles, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for education and intellectual discussion that stayed with him throughout his life pursuing advanced degrees from University of Colorado Boulder, University of Hawaii, and the University of Southern California.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his nation with honor and distinction for 24 years, including during the Vietnam War. His exemplary service was recognized through numerous military commendations, including the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. His military career afforded him opportunities to travel extensively throughout the world, experiences that broadened his perspective and fueled his enduring interest in global affairs.
Following his retirement from military service, he continued to contribute his talents as an engineer and consultant for the global engineering firm, Ralph M. Parsons. He consulted with French organizations involved in the planning and development of the Channel Tunnel (Chunnel) project and later played a role in the development of the Los Angeles Metrorail system, work that reflected both his technical expertise and international outlook.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Rey embraced life with enthusiasm. As a younger man, he was an avid tennis player who relished competition and camaraderie on the court. He found peace and joy near the ocean, a place he loved throughout his life. In retirement, he discovered a new passion for fishing, especially for lobster, enjoying the quiet patience and simple pleasures it brought and sharing his passion for fishing with his grandchildren. He also maintained a keen interest in politics and current events, never shying away from a spirited discussion and always eager to exchange ideas.
Perhaps his greatest joy was the life he built with his beloved wife, Alice. Married for 75 years, they shared a remarkable partnership founded on love, faith, devotion, and perseverance. Together they created a family and a lifetime of memories that will endure for generations. Their enduring commitment to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Above all, he was devoted to his family. His wisdom, sense of duty, strength of character, and steady presence provided guidance and comfort to those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, integrity, and perseverance that will continue to inspire future generations.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, his children, Richard Frias, Kathryn Pudlock (Stephen), and Carol Mertz (Dave); grandchildren, David DuBose and his partner (Laurel Field), Sean Pudlock and his partner (Jennifer Headden), Kelsey Pudlock (Patrick Maguire), and Alicia Kay (Brett); 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rey was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Armando and Ruben.
A Funeral Mass will be held at San Francisco de Solano Catholic Church, 2082 Antonio Parkway, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688 on Monday, November 16, 2026 at 10:00 am followed by interment with military honors at the VA National Cemetery at Riverside, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518 at 12:45 pm.
Though he has departed this world, his example, his stories, and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
May he rest in peace.
