Rebecca Sanoria Abao, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Leyte, Philippines, on March 5, 1938, to Ruperto and Mariquita Sanoria, Rebecca was the eldest of five children. She grew up helping with the family bookstore – Sanoria Reading Center.  A dedicated scholar, she earned her Pharmacy Degree from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines, and went on to run her own pharmacy as a young mother.

Rebecca, lovingly known as Becky or Tita Becky or Lola, was married for 62 beautiful years to her college sweetheart, Sixto Jr., who recently passed on July 25th. While we grieve their loss, we find some comfort in knowing they are reunited. Together, Becky and Sixto raised three cherished children: Marjuree (and her spouse, Rick), Sixto III (and his spouse, Erika), and Maricor. She was also blessed with five adoring grandchildren—Richard, Elise, Max, Ava, and Grace—who brought immense joy into her life and were deeply touched by the love only a Lola (grandmother) can provide.

Rebecca’s legacy will forever be defined by her unwavering courage, especially in the face of life’s greatest challenges. She lost her father at the age of 8, and from that moment on, she faced each hardship with perseverance, grace, and determination, serving as a powerful example of faith, strength, and resilience for her family. Throughout her life, she was a constant source of support and love, always guiding her loved ones with honesty, wisdom, and faith.

Her bravery was most evident in the way she fiercely protected her family. Whether she was nurturing her beloved guava trees, cooking her famous lumpia, or offering a comforting word, Rebecca’s presence brought joy, warmth, and security to all who knew her.

She leaves behind a legacy of courage, resilience, and selflessness that will continue to inspire future generations.
