  1. Ramon was walking encyclopedia. He shared his knowledge on variety of topics with us. He had excellent memory. His Scientific contribution on Vitamin D and knowledge on Maldi-tof is admired by all his colleagues. The world has lost an outstanding scientist, good human being and a friend. You will be missed my friend. Our lunch outings will not be same without you.

Whenever my path happened to cross Ramon’s at work, which wasn’t too often, he always had a smile and warm greeting. I didn’t know him very well but have learned a little more from the messages posted here. I am not surprised that there was a lot of greatness hidden behind his humility. God knows all the good that is in him. May he rest in peace, and may we now benefit from his prayers.

  3. Prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends Ramon left behind. He was an extremely kind and humble fellow; and will be missed. Rest in peace, and God be with you Ramon.

  4. I’m extremely saddened to know of the passing of our very dear friend Ramon, with whom I shared four memorable years as classmates at the University of the Philippines, graduating together with B.S. In Chemistry degrees. After that, we parted ways as each went to a different graduate school, I to Kentucky and he to Ohio State; but we kept in contact and enjoyed our reunions.
After graduate school I only met him twice, once in Toronto and the last time in LA in the 90s. He was always the kind, soft spoken, and gentle person. How I wish we could reconnected in the last two decades of his life.
Rest in peace, my long lost friend.

  5. Ramon. Remembering great times together brings me back all the way to 1970, when a group of us nerdy chemistry majors concocted the unlikely phrase “root prerequisite” so as to persuade the Science Board to authorize moving calculus forward in the program – the summer term, when all is accelerated. Ramon would solve all the problem sets ahead of class. He played a mean game of Monopoly ‘ a divertissement from our gang’s jovial debates on some notion of chemistry, or of physics, or of math. He was the Mr. Organic Chem of our time, carrying it on to grad school. A Buckeye football fan, he threw a very good spiral. He stood by me as my best man at my wedding. Grace and I would visit with him and his wife Purita when they lived in Scarborough. We visited them once when they moved to Southern California. Many more bits and pieces, still intact in my long-term recall. My one regret: we should have continued to keep in touch over the years.

Brilliant chemist, encyclopaedic mind, tireless innovator, great friend. Hey fellows, Ed, Nestor, Deo, Angel and Ray, here’s to our departed brother: Ramon. He lives on in our memories.
