Rachel Arreola Burton was born on April 19, 1929 to Maria Zubia and Ignacio Arreola in La Habra, CA. She was the eldest daughter and the last one surviving. She was very nurturing and cared deeply for her siblings. She enjoyed working at the telephone company and made some of her first life long friends there. She met Forrest Oliver Burton at The Biltmore dance club in Los Angeles and it was love at first sight. Her stories of how they danced, hung out with friends, went out to dinners and visited local lakes were so sweet. They enjoyed 50+ years of marriage until he passed away in 2008. They raised their children in her beloved Whittier home. As a homemaker she relished her role and went all out on making delicious dinners, taking care of her husband, sewing for her kids and gardening. She enjoyed being the President of CCD at St. Mary's Catholic Church and a Girl Scout leader. She loved camping and hiking in Yosemite, traveling to Mexico and hosting many celebrations. One of the things she enjoyed most in life was dancing whenever she had a chance to big band music and mariachis, and was still dancing at 93 years old at her granddaughter's wedding. The dedication she had to her faith and family was notable and everlasting. She leaves behind a lot of memories and blessings with all the people she touched. Rachel died peacefully in her home on August 22, 2026. She will be greatly missed by several generations. She was preceded in death by her very loved husband, Forrest Oliver Burton (2008) and is survived by her children, "Twin A" Claudia Loughran (Jack) of Dana Point, CA, "Twin B" Christopher Burton (Sonya) of Costa Mesa, CA and Sylvia Harmon (James) of Centennial, CO, her stepchildren Cyndi Carilli (Tony) and Carl Burton (Jayne). Rachel had deep relationships with her grandchildren: Kaitlin Kelesoglou (Christopher), Madison Mahowald, Camille Bentzinger (Jacob), Brett Harmon, Miles Mahowald, Sophia Burton, Ava Burton and Natalie Burton, her great granddaughter, Eleni Maria Kelesoglou, who she was happy to be able to meet. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward The Confessor Catholic Church in Dana Point, CA. A rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward's. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities.
