Pi-Ian Chen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and vibrant member of the Southern California ballroom community, passed away on March 21, 2026, at age 80. She faced a valiant battle with cancer with the same resilience and grace that defined her life.
Born in Taichung, Taiwan, in 1946, Pi-Ian earned an Economics degree from Chu-Hsing University before moving to the U.S. with her husband, Wen-Mo Chen. While raising two children with deep dedication, she maintained a career at ADP and later proudly served as a mail carrier for the USPS.
In her later years, Pi-Ian reinvented herself through ballroom dance, blossoming into a competitor, instructor, and popular DJ across Orange and Los Angeles Counties. An avid traveler, she delighted in exploring global cultures and cuisines, yet her greatest joy always remained her family.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Chen Speckman and Boris Chen; grandchildren Rowan, Ciel, Raymond, and Justin; and siblings Tien-Wen, Su-Mei, Helena, Sunny, and Tien-Ti. Her warmth and exuberant spirit will be profoundly missed by a wide circle of family and friends.
