Obituary

Peter Raymond Bingley, 79, of Mission Viejo, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 with his entire family at his bedside. Born to Joseph and Mary Bingley on December 23, 1928 in Shannock, Rhode Island, he was the youngest of 7 children. His parents traveled during the mass migration to ‘America’ from Ireland and England, seeking a more prosperous life for their children. They migrated to Southern CA in the early 1940’s, where all but one took up their residence and careers, with the memories of those days in New England ever etched in their mind and souls. Peter attended Citrus College in Pomona and graduated from Redlands University as Class President and Valedictorian. He married Elizabeth Betty Harris in 1949, and together they had four children, Peter Jr, Norma, Cathy and Danny, three of whom reside in Orange County Norma passed away in 2005. He lived a full life with many accomplishments in his career which required relocation to several cities and states, always with his family in tow. His devotion to his heritage, his country and family was undying and he sought to ensure his family and extended family was kept close to his heart. He proudly served in the Navy in World War II, as did all of his brothers. We cannot put into words the love he had for his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and for his wife of almost 60 years. They together, made sure we knew where we came from, so we would understand how fortunate we are today.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty, and three of his four children, Peter Jr, Cathy and Danny, along with his sister Dorothy Dottie Powell, and his many grandchildren Michael, Cathy, Peter, Stacy, Donna, Chris, Debra, Michelle, David, Danny, Joey, Melissa and great grandchild, Hannah.

He will be missed more than there are words to express, with his legacy and memories living forever in the hearts of the remaining family members – and beyond. We love you forever and always. Your Irish eyes will always be smiling and the world will smile with you, until eternity.

  1. I offer the deepest sympathies from the Lalime Family in New England who were proud to have known such a man. We will be forever grateful for all the stories shared by him as well as the part he played in so many of our lives.
He will be long remembered on the East Coast.

  2. Gramps, I’ve been reading through the many emails I saved from you… I could never bear to delete your words, they were always so well written and mostly profound. The end of one email sticks out to me as my favorite. After shooting the breeze and catching up, you said “We love you very much, always have, always will. After all, you are in fact, “Our first born”. Sincere Love, Gramps”. I will hold that sincere and deep love in my heart forever. I love you. Love, your Cath.

  3. Dear Cathy, Bruce, Betty & Family: The Oddys are very saddened by the news of the loss of your patriarch of your family. We won’t forget his playfulness and wonderful presence at all of your wonderful Christmas parties every year. It was always something for us to look forward to – seeing and visiting with Betty & Peter. He will be missed tremendously and our sincere sympathies go out to all of you.
Love always, Cynthia, Bob & Devon

Well Gramps? What do ya think? I’m sure I know what you’re thinking. “Now why is everyone making such a big fuss?!” But I know that you secretly loved all the attention. ;- I will miss you more than any words can ever amount to say. You have been a rock to me and all of us for as long as I can remember. Thank you for giving me all you had to give. All the love and support I could ever need. You were and always will be the wind beneath my wings. I love you, Gramps.
    Love,
    Shell
