Obituary
Patricia “Patty” Joan (Dietze) McClintock
June 5, 1948 – May 15, 2025
Patty McClintock, 76, of Irvine, CA, passed away on May 15, 2025, at UCLA after a courageous battle with cancer and declining health. A beloved wife, mother, and friend, Patty was known for her incredible strength, quiet courage, and the immense love she had for her family. Her kindness and thoughtfulness touched everyone lucky enough to know her.
She was a lung transplant survivor, having received the gift of new life in April 2020. That gift gave her five more years, during which she continued to show resilience and deep gratitude to her donor and life itself.
Patty is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, John McClintock; her precious daughter, Julie McClintock; and her cherished dog, Sandee. Patty was preceded in death by her father, Herb Dietze; her mother June (Nelson) Dietze; her sister Marilyn (Dietze) Grover; and dogs Wiggles, Cindy, Tootsie, and Lucas.
Born and raised in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Patty moved to Southern California with her family when she was 18 years old. She attended business school in West Covina and worked for General Telephone and then the City of Irvine in Accounts Payable for 25 years.
Patty loved to exercise and practiced Pilates for 25 years. She was an avid reader who loved the outdoors and found joy in traveling with her family- especially to June Lake, where she was a fine fisherwoman, and to the Central Coast, where she loved collecting sea glass. She gave generously of her time- volunteering at the Friends of the Heritage Park Library Bookstore and knitting hundreds of blankets for NICU babies across the country through Knots of Love.
The McClintock family is truly grateful for the exceptional care Patty received at UCLA and for the compassion shown in her final days. She will be endlessly missed.
A private memorial will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patty’s honor to UCLA Heart and Lung Transplant Program.

Patty was a remarkable woman, and her presence always brightened the FOL Bookstore. Even during her very difficult health issues, she was a smiling, sweet person who made everyone so glad to see her. My deepest condolences to her family, and we all will miss her.

Patty, you loved and supported Julie as your only daughter, while we were growing up together. You came to all our chorale concerts, took pictures of us at prom, and beared with us laughing in your computer room too late at night. I think it’s beautiful that she loved and supported you as your caretaker when your health became a battle. You fought so hard to be here and stay together. I wish you and your family peace as you rest. I know that the strong bond you have with each other is forever. Thank you for being such an important person in the life of my best friend. I know we will see each other again. Much love!
