Nyla Joyce Barbour Morrison Jones, lovingly known as "Nyla B," was born December 14, 1934, in Lockeford, California, to Roswell Powell Barbour and Mary Cristine Andersen Barbour. Raised in Lockeford and Lodi, Nyla's California roots ran deep. Through her father, she was a descendant of California pioneers in the Donner Party, a family history stretching back generations in the state she called home.

Nyla attended San Jose State University before becoming a wife and mother. She later studied interior design at Saddleback College, reflecting her creativity and her natural eye for making things beautiful.

Nyla married Donald William Morrison, with whom she built their family and shared a life until his passing in 1972. She later married Allen Jones. Over the years, she called San Jose, San Francisco, Orange, and Dana Point home.

Family was at the heart of Nyla's life. She was the proud mother of six children and is survived by Carter and Amy Morrison (Blair, Lindsay); Douglas Morrison, Cathleen and Ed Hulbert (Tricia, Bradley); Shelby and Gary Sorvig (Tatum, Madison, Bailey, and Cooper); Patricia and Glen Sharlun(Grace,Abigail and Madison); Victoria and Paul Maxwell (Tylor, Alexa, Zoe, and Ainsley). Nyla was also a beloved great-grandmother to 21, a family and legacy that now spans generations.

Nyla will be remembered for her big smile, sense of humor and the kindness she showed to so many.

Nyla loved her church and the community she found there. She adored her sweet dog, Fiona, and found so much joy in the simple things that made life fun: shopping trips, lunches with friends, volunteering, driving her golf cart to the beach, playing Bingo, Bridge, Backgammon and her favorite, Hand and Foot. Although, to be clear, Nyla didn't just enjoy playing games, she enjoyed winning.

Her faith, her family, her competitive spirit and humor are all part of what made her a wonderful wife, friend and parent. A well lived life spanning nearly 92 years created a vast collection of memories her family and friends will treasure always.

Nyla's greatest legacy can be seen in the family she built and the generations that came after her. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will continue to tell her stories, laugh about the games she won, remember the things she loved, and carry pieces of her forward.

A celebration of Nyla's life is tentatively planned for December. Service details will be shared at a later date.
