Nora Anne Lyons Burke (Noreen) died peacefully on August 28, 2014. Her husband Michael L. Burke predeceased her. Her parents, John and Mary Lyons, and her brother, John, also predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Kaye Ashkenaze, M.D., her husband, David Ashkenaze, M.D. and their children, Kerry and Joshua; her sister, Theresa Brosnan from Barnstable, MA., her brothers: Christopher Lyons and his wife, Kathy, from Rutland, VT. and Gerard Lyons and his wife, Lynn, from White Plains, NY, and her nephews: John Brosnan from Stow, MA and Michael Brosnan from Milford, CT.
Nora was born in Bronx, NY and attended Holy Rosary Elementary School and the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula , both in the Bronx. She received her B.A, from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. After she married her husband, Michael, who graduated from the University of Notre Dame, they lived in Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, and Massachusetts. She received her M.E.D. in Speech and Language Pathology from Boston University. She did her training at the Boston School for the Deaf and Aphasic Children. She was a retired special needs teacher who taught at the Prescott Elementary School in Norwood, MA. She lived in Canton, MA for 45 years and moved to Laguna Niguel, CA in 2009 to be close to her daughter and husband and her beloved grandchildren. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Corpus Christi in Aliso Viejo, CA.
A Funeral mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, September 6 at 1:30 P.M. at Corpus Christi Church, 27231 Aliso Viejo Parkway, Aliso Viejo, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Corpus Christi building fund.
