I’ve know Noel since 1972 when he hired my husband, Scott Taylor, to work at JPL. They became life long friends and we share many memories of him. The first thing I really remember of him was living in the same apartment complex in Seattle during the building of MVM Mercury/Venus/Mars observer. We had a lot of good times together in Seattle and in Florida for the launch. It was a great team and we all became great friends. We loved to go to a little bar in Florida where we would all dance the night away. Many times it was a bit hard for the guys to get up to go to work the next day, but they always did. They were all devoted to the project and the cheer that was sent up by that team at the launch was tremendous. Noel was so proud of his team. They worked on the building, testing and launch of the Mariner. I for one will always remember Noel from that time. He was so happy and a really great friend.

My boys always thought of him as another uncle. He was always there.
They can’t remember a time in their lives without Noel in it. They will always remember the picnics and the parties and what a nice man he was to them.

When I stopped working at JPL the thing I missed the most was our lunches at Georgies. We always had a great time and he taught me a lot of things about computers and networks. He seemed to always take the time to explain things the guys were talking about that I didn’t understand. Thanks Noel for always being such a great friend. I will miss you.

Noel and I met at JPL in 1975, when I started working there. He had a great sense of humor, and I still have some funny things he wrote me in the course of our work together, back in the days of tape drives and line printers. My husband Jim and I went to his birthday party in building 230 where they had a stripper for him, yes they did what year was that?. He took it in good grace, like the classy guy he was. Noel was a gentleman, and a very smart man. He thought well and deeply about problems that we worked on together, and taught me a lot. If Noel said something was a right and proper thing to do, it was, you could count on that.
His family should be proud of him.

  3. Staci and family,

I came to know Noel around 1975 when the test people at JPL were in the process of getting the data system ready to support Voyager test operations. Noel became one of our go to people whenever we needed help. Noel’s knowledge of the data system was key to our successful test operations. There was many a day when data system updates needed to be tested after hours to support Voyager test operations the next day. Noel was always the first person to volunteer to run the data system so we could stay on schedule. I could not count the days he assisted me on his own time.

Noel was known around JPL by all the flight projects for his dedicated support. This continued into flight operations where I continued to enjoy his help over a 21 year period on both Voyager and Magellan missions.

Noel will be missed very much and remembered with great respect and affection.

  4. Staci,

As special friends of Pam and Reyes, we were so sorry to hear of your father’s accident and pursuant death. It is always very painful to lose a parent. Unfortunately, we will be unable to attend his service as we have a prior commitment. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

    With our love,
    Greg and Karen Albrecht
