Obituary

Nina Rokni better known as Nahid Hatami, her married name, was born on April 12, 1952.

She first came to America in the early 70s to study civil engineering and return to Iran and work with her husband. But alas that was not to be. Her mother called a year before the revolution in Iran in 1978 and told them not to come back to Iran that something very dangerous was happening; and indeed her family was a big part of the coo to overthrow Ayatollah Khomeini. They were caught. Nahid had stayed back in the USA with her daughter Noushin and her husband Fred and later had a son Ali who all survive her alongside her four grandchildren whom she loved something fierce.

She worked hard as an immigrant and she and and her husband built a prosperous life for themselves and their children and their grandchildren. More than anything Nahid was an adventurer. She took off with her husband Fereidoon with very little money in their pockets to a start a great adventure in the United States. She was a brave woman who took on life headfirst and heartfirst. She was a more complicated soul than most people knew, full of poetry compassion, and generosity. She often put the needs of others ahead of herself for many, many years.

In her later years she became a world traveler and she went to many countries and introduced herself to different cultures. She was an incredibly smart business woman, who dealt with her employees in a kind and respectful manner. But most important of all, she loved God and believed that he would always guide her and bring her goodness in life so long as she believed in him with all her heart and all her might; which she did. Our family cannot wait to see her again one day.

We will miss her something terrible as she was the light of our lives. May you rest in peace mother, wife, sister, friend, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, cousin, sister-in-law and true lover of the Lord.

I knew from the start, you were special! Our paths crossed so you can teach to love unconditionally, , to forgive wholeheartedly, to help me heal my broken heart! .
Together we tried to live a well balanced life as we communed with God’s creations each time we hiked. You helped me get enlightened, you taught me to love with my heart and not with my ego. I will never forget you my dear Nina! I am looking forward to your visitations! I love you with all my heart, Love and light my dear! Namaste! I will see you again.·

  2. Mama
I was supposed to have 10 more years with you. You were inly 67, I thought God, 77 is a reasonable age. But alas, it was not to be. You were more than my mother, you were my everything. I’m nit sure how to live without you, but by the Lords hand I will find a way. I loved you in life. And I love you in death. Mama. I love you so so much. If going to heaven requires goodwill then in my opinion you have earned it many many times over. May the Lord keep you.

  3. MOTHER

Nature felt the departure of you mother.

The winter’s cold brought in a deeper frost.

The fallen leaves lost autumns crunch

And now shatter like glass underfoot.

My breath from all the dry wailing

Turned to ice crystals in mid air… they spelled

Out loss over and over again.

The sun decided to veil his face and hide

His tears lest we think him not strong.

The clouds in his absence stampeded out like

Hungry Beasts and zealously darkened our

Skies with grins on their faces.

The birds of song hid in the trees, the bears

With their Heads Hung low meandered

    grudgingly into hibernation.

You see mother, nature is confused.

You were the light that gave the sun its glare,

And the color that painted our skies blue.

Your tears Misted the soil for the flowers bloom

and the fruits Ripened sweet splendor.

You filled the air with warmth that heralded in

Lazy summers and took away the chill inside

Our hearts. The sight of you made the song

Birds sing a tune which only caterpillars knew.

That it was time for the butterflies to stain the

The landscape in hues of cascading magenta,

scarlett, tangerine and violet. Just for you mom.

It was all because of you mom.

Please join us as we say “see you soon” and not “goodbye” to our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend
