Obituary

Nicholas Pedone of Mission Viejo, CA passed peacefully on Saturday April 26th at 10:36pm, at home surrounded by his family. Nick was born November 17th, 1932 in Cottonwood, Arizona. He is survived by his wife Jan, son Tim (daughter in-law Alesia) of San Diego, California, daughters Cheryl Gwartney of Mission Viejo, California & Tina (son in-law Gary Giampaolo) of Spring, Texas, 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Carly, Riley, Spencer, Bailey, Kelli and Frankie. He is also survived by his brother Dan Pedone of Victoria, Texas.

He graduated from Palo Verde Valley Union High School, Blythe, California, in 1951 where he was the Quarterback for the Football Team his Junior and Senior year. During his time at Palo Verde Valley Union he was also a member of the Basketball and Track teams. He was involved in many other extracurricular activities including Student Council, Spanish Club, Camera Club, the Junior Play and Junior Statesmen.

Nick served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 – 1955, Petty Officer 3rd Class and received the National Defense Service Medal for service during the Korean War as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He spent over a year at sea on the U.S.S. Pine Island as an Aviation Electronics Technician where he repaired guidance systems for torpedoes.

Nick was a kind individual and touched every person he met in a positive and loving way. He worked for Ohio Casualty Insurance for over 25 years before “retiring”. In his early retirement years he cared for family members, his father in-law Eston Rose 1998, his father, Joseph Pedone 1998 – 2002 and moved on to care for his mother in-law Violet Rose 2002 – 2006.

From 2006 – 2013 he worked part time at DeNaults True Value Hardware store. He enjoyed helping others find what they needed and loved working with the “kids” there.

Nick always put his family first and was so involved in his kids and grandkids lives. He coached soccer, attended plays, musicals, dance recitals and marching band contests around the country. He recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Jan.

He was a devote Catholic and he regularly attended Mass at St. Kilian Church in Mission Viejo. He was a big sports fan that loved watching and talking about his Angels. He also loved going to the gym to help stay active.

He is predeceased by his parents Joseph & Mary Pedone, brother Joseph Pedone and son Jeff Pedone.

The service will be on Friday May 2nd, 10:30am at St. Kilian Church located at 26872 Estanciero Dr, Mission Viejo 92691. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in his name www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org.

    My first memories of Uncle Nick are Special to me. I was an in-law coming into the family. He made me feel very comfortable. He was always so kind and gentle. He helped me feel like I belonged! He always’ made me feel good. I loved Uncle Nick from the first day I met him! I will miss his gentle personality, his kind smile and his open arms. I love you Uncle Nick, Til we meet again!!!
