Obituary

Nancy Marie Huber DeJohn entered this life July 17, 1948 and began eternal life on September 2, 2018 surrounded by family.  She lived in Mission Viejo, CA for over 40 years, born in Cherry Point, North Carolina, graduated High School at Camp Lejeune, NC and spent the years in between stationed at various bases throughout the country while her Marine Corps Office father proudly served his country.  She often stayed with her beloved grandparents in Louisville, Kentucky and always referred to that place as home.  As the eldest child of Walter and Dorothy Huber, Nancy took on the role as caretaker to her 6 siblings.

She attended her mother’s alma mater Ursuline College, went on to marry and graduate from Saddleback College in Southern California.

As a proud and devout Catholic, and a single mother of two young girls, Nancy was an active member of the church and Cursillo and encouraged her children in their faith as they attended the Mission San Juan Capistrano school, and later Santa Margarita HS and St Kilian’s.  She was also able to find a career in printing where she excelled and won many awards for her hard work and achievements. She was blessed to have found a values-based company that reflected her beliefs and that functioned more like a family than a group of co-workers.  This allowed her to also be a mom who drove carpool and attended school functions and sports games.

Additionally, she managed to play an active role in her community volunteering and running many local and national organizations.  Nancy was proud of her accomplishments getting the Saddleback Teen Center up and running in Mission Viejo.  She was a conference Chairwoman for WISE – a group founded to empower women to learn about their finances.  And she was on the Board of Directors and a Conference Chairwoman for WomenSage – providing opportunities and programs to empower woman.

Nancy is survived by her 2 daughters, Stephanie Sikora (Mark) and Natalie Hustad (Jesse); 4 grandchildren, Elliot, Anthony, Vivi and Olivia; 5 sisters, Marian Mann (Reeve Chudd), Linda Ford (Bill), Barbara Huber, Janet Carlen (James), Pamela Magney (Eric); 1 bother, Walter Lee Huber, Jr (Luanna); 5 nieces and 6 nephews.  Nancy was predeceased by her parents.

All friends and family are welcome to celebrate Nancy’s life with a rosary and reflection on Sunday September 9th at 10am in the Chapel at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA.  With a funeral Mass on Monday September 10th at 1pm at St Kilian’s Church in Mission Viejo, CA, and reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy has asked that you donate to your favorite charity in her name.  Her favorites were SOARS and Bondi Ministries.

Please join us for a special rosary and reflection service on Sunday at 10am.  This time will be spent praying the rosary together and reflecting on Mom’s life.

The rosary was a very important part of mom’s life, and the only thing she wanted after her death was for all her friends and family to gather and pray the rosary together.  We’ll start at 10 with a beautiful procession celebrating one of mom’s favorite Bible verses 10 roses and a lily, followed by the rosary and eulogies.

Funeral mass at St Kilian’s on Monday at 1pm, with reception to follow in the church hall.

  1. We were young and innocent
And the world was at our feet.
    Eagerly, we looked forward
To the adventures we would meet.

    We experienced highs and lows
    On our journey called LIFE.
    Good times, sad times
    Happiness and strife.

    We handled Life’s challenges
    With determination and pride
    While becoming strong, vital women
    Making differences miles wide.

    The Unknown doesn’t scare us
    And we don’t look back.
    We trust in the future
With a sureness that is intact.

    Here’s to Yesterday, Today and
    The possibility of Tomorrow.
Life has been good to us, dear Friend,
So let our joys triumph over any sorrow.

    We WILL meet again
    In that you can trust.
    Two unique, strong women–
    That is definitely us!

Love you, my dear Friend. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again–

    Love,

    Teresa

  2. Carol says:

Nancy, you were unique. You got things things done and were a driving force within WomanSage. I miss you and know you are free from earthly restraints.

  3. I have known Nancy for a little over 20 years. First as a work colleague and then also as a friend. It would be very hard for someone not to know and to love Nancy. She was a kind, warm and generous. I am sure I never heard her speak against anyone. If we were asking for donations for a cause or a baby or bridal shower she was first in line with her checkbook. We would love to have our “girls” lunches with some of us and enjoyed the laughter and the sharing.
She freely shared her faith in God and we would share encouraging scriptures. We would pray together on the phone when it became too hard for her to get into work. We smiled around here because no matter how bad things were she always had her “Nancy” voice. Happy and chipper. It wasn’t until she called on Friday last that I knew something was wrong immediately. She didn’t have her Nancy voice. She still was the same kind loving Nancy, the voice wasn’t the same. We said we loved each other and I prayed with her one last time. I knew that Jesus would be saying “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

  4. Linda Scheck says:

Nancy always had vision. She saw ways to make a difference in people’s lives rather than just cope with difficulties and complain. She made things happen. She gathered the right people together and the right things happened. She was a positive, happy and full-of-life person who touched many, many people. I will miss her happy smiles.

  5. Soar with the stars!
