In Loving Memory of Nancy Margaret Mentz
December 27, 1937 – August 29, 2024

The family of Nancy Margaret Mentz is deeply saddened to announce her passing on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the age of 86. Born and raised in Queens, New York, after graduating high school, Nancy followed her dream of moving to California. She eventually settled in Huntington Beach where she raised 3 sons and 2 daughters. For Nancy, life was best spent on a sunny beach, looking after her children. Her love for New York, however, never wavered. She returned many times for what would become legendary family reunions.

Nancy loved her friends, of which there were many, including those from her childhood and those from the neighborhood. She was loved and admired by the friends of her kids, and by many of their parents, and by anyone from the New York expat community.

More than anything, Nancy loved her family. She considered her kids to be her best friends and treated them to endless generosity and undeniable selflessness.

To the world, she was a mother. To her family, she was our world.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents Margaret and John Hamilton and her younger twin sisters, Jane and Joan. Nancy’s legacy lives on through her husband of 62 years, Robert Mentz, her 5 children and their spouses, her 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and her extended family of nephews and nieces. Our family takes comfort in knowing that one day we will all be reunited.

  1. Dear Mentz Family. It was an honor growing up with your family throughout our high school years. It was an honor to be invited to your warm home and spend time with Nancy and your family. I thank Nancy for being such a strong matriarch and loving mother. She was always kind, giving and funny. I know that she is resting in a beautiful place and will guide and support her entire family spiritually. We are sorry for your loss but rejoicing knowing she is another angel in Gods Kingdom. Peace and Love always. Glenn and Jenifer Domingo

Mom I always told you I hope to someday be half as good of a mother in law as you have been to me. Thank you for being an awesome mother in law and Nanny to all my kids. You went to all their functions even though you already did it all with your own kids. You always had time for the grandkids. They adore you and you will always remain in our hearts. ❤️‍🩹 I love and miss you.
