Obituary
Nanci Burt Shull passed away on April 2, 2005 at home. She was born on July 25, 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up in Leawood, Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School. Nanci attended Kansas State College Pittsburg, Kansas and Loyola University in Chicago. She was an active member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Nanci started in the insurance industry at an early age and worked in all areas including Senior Management. She was with Fireman’s Fund for many years in branches from coast to coast. She returned to Califonia eight years ago and resided in Mission Viejo.
Nanci will always be remembered for her positive spirit. She was always laughing and happy, never letting anything get her down. She fought cancer twice and beat it both times with undying positive attitude. Nanci had a true compassion for people and animals. She always had time for friends and family, and would spread her contagious smile everywhere she went. She had volunteered at a local animal shelter, and often created her own animal shelter in her home as she nursed injured or lost animals back to health. Anyone who knew Nanci will always remember her wonderful laugh and her beautiful positive spirit.
Nanci is survived by her husband, Doug Burt; her daughter, Kelley Demas; stepson Chris Burt, his wife Yolanda and their children Gabbie and Alex; stepdaughter Rosanna Cohle and her husband Andy. She is also survived by many close friends as well as her many pets.

Nanci was always a true friend, and as we go along in this life a Friendship that last 40 years is hard to come by. We graduated from SM East in 1965, and continued to stay in touch. What fun did we have attending Pittsburg State, Nanci’s love for family and friend and pets toowas always at the top. She loved Life, Enjoyed Life. I will miss her e-mails, her smile, and wicked laugh, and most of all that great voice. My thoughts are with Nanci’s Family. She will be missed by many. Nanci will stay in our hearts forever

I did not know Nanci but we are moving her husband back home. My prayers are with Mr. Doug Burt and family. Your dear Nanci is now a part of your future when you see her in heaven.

I didn’t know Nanci as well as others but I can certainly echo their thoughts of how happy a person she was. Most memories I seem to have of her are of times spent at the house in KC with her, Doug, Kelley and my good friend Chris. The sound of her laughter was always in abundant supply at those times. It is apparent she was a good mother – she raised a beautiful person in her daughter Kelley and I hope she can always find the happiness in life that her mother seemed to know. Nanci will be missed by all.

Doug and all of Nanci’s family,
I’ve known Nanci & Doug for many years, initially as simply clients and later, friends as well. Nanci was one of my early customers, and also one of the very first to ask how she could transfer her business to me when I nervously formed my own investment firm 10 years ago-and I’ll never forget that expression of loyalty! When she moved to California, she called again to make sure we could still continue both our business and personal relationships-as well as to mention rub in? how much better the weather was there than back here in KC! Nanci was a good and loyal friend that all of us will dearly miss. I wish all of her family the very best, and I will keep her always in my thoughts and prayers.

Andy and I both miss Nanci, my step-mother, so much. I was very lucky to have Nanci around while I was growing up, she always had such a positive attitude about everything – she was a very important female influence that I am very appreciative to have had. She touched so many people with her open personality and love of life, people and animals, and we will always remember her and hear her laughter when we think of her! Her essence lives on in these happy memories that she had a part in creating. We love you and miss you Nanci! You truly made the world a better place while you were around.
