Nadine Conrad Mayes

Nadine Mayes was born on April 16, 1931 in Pipestone, MN to Elsie and Edgar Conrad. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Jasper (MN) High School. Following high school, she moved to Luverne, MN and worked as a Bookkeeper/Secretary. Three years later she moved across the country to California and started a secretarial job at North American Aviation in Downey, where she met her future husband, Frank. They were married in 1954. After their marriage, Nadine was a homemaker and handled bookkeeping for family investments and businesses. Frank and Nadine had two sons and lived in Pico Rivera, Diamond Bar and Irvine, CA. Nadine moved to Laguna Woods three years ago.

Nadine was active with the Parent Teachers Association at Magee Elementary School in Pico Rivera, serving on the board several years and as PTA president for one year. She was also active with the Walnut High School Band Boosters Club.

Nadine enjoyed family travel, including visits to many of the National Parks in the western US. After Frank’s retirement, they traveled more often, including cruises and regular trips to Hawaii.

Nadine died at her residence in Laguna Woods on May 28, 2024 after a brief illness.

Nadine is survived by her sons John (Patricia) of Troy, MI and Robert (Laura) of Placentia, CA; grandchildren Stephen (Nichole) of Troy, MI and Matthew (Michelle) of Clarkston, MI; great-grandchildren Eleanor, Alexander and Theodore; her siblings Mavis Olson, Daryl (Janice) Conrad, Barbara Paulson and Joan (Roger) Reed; nieces, nephews and extended family members.
