In loving Memory of Mitchell Redden

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mitchell Redden. Born in Concord, California, on February 22, 1963 to Grant and Patricia Redden, Mitch was raised, along with his brother Jerry, in the East Bay, having attended and graduated from Liberty High School.

Mitch went on to study Business Administration at California State University, Chico. He became a proud member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, earning a degree in Business Finance. Developing an abiding interest in financial services, this led to a long and successful career in institutional mortgage banking. Mitch met Kellie, his loving wife and partner in life of 29 years, through mutual friends at a social gathering and the two married soon afterward. Following their marriage, the couple have been blessed with three beautiful children, Jack (24 years old), Katherine (21 years old), and Lily (17 years old).

Notable achievements ensued for Mitch as a 32-year veteran in the lending industry, where he developed his prominent reputation for building a culture of growing people and positive environments. The early part of his career began at American Savings Bank, followed by Nations Bank, and Bank of America, advancing into Executive Management at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, and Finance of America. A hallmark of Mitch’s character was as that of a servant leader. He believed greatness was achieved when the goal was for the greater good where all could win. The key was collaborating with others and empowering them to realize their goals and aspirations. Joining the Advisory Board of OneOC proved a perfect way to give back to a community that has always offered so much to him.

Mitch’s personality was inspiring and he was a man who loved life. He was friendly, outgoing, welcoming, compassionate, purposeful, and funny. He loved his family and friends fiercely and found great joy in seeing his children grow into capable, loving, thoughtful adults. He loved to travel, try new things, and approached every day as a new opportunity to be the best version of himself. Leisure time was most often spent boating and on the water. An avid water skier, Mitch could also be found spending quality time with family and friends snow-skiing, motorcycle riding, wine tasting, or playing a good game of backgammon. A favorite place was right in the backyard, at his BBQ, of the home he and Kellie built as a way to bring others together. To Mitch, there was no better afternoon than one spent with those he cared about, sharing a meal, a great glass of wine, and deep, meaningful conversation.

Mitch passed peacefully at the age of 58 on Wednesday, June 16, 2021. Fittingly, he was surrounded by his wife and family, wrapped up in their love. Holding his hands, they were by his side to let him know they had his back every step of the way. Taken too soon, Mitch will be profoundly missed by his family and the many, many people he inspired and influenced in his life. He is survived by his wife, Kellie, children Jack, Kate, and Lily, mother Patricia Redden, sister-in-law Julie Redden-Whitehead, and nephews Christopher Redden and Sean Redden. Mitch is pre-deceased by his father, Grant Redden and brother, Jerry Redden, with whom we rejoice he has been reunited, having entered into the glorious gates of heaven.

His greatest love was for his wife, his family, good music, good jokes, and a genuinely good belly laugh. A favorite quote Mitch would often refer to is that of Viktor Frankl’s: “For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side-effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself.”

A Celebration Mass in memory of Mitch Redden, and a life well-lived, will take place on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach, California, at 10:30 am. Celebration of Life Reception to follow at the Balboa Bay Resort from 12:30 – 4:30 pm.
