CAPT. MITCHELL CHARLES FREEM JR.

Lake Forest – Mitchell C. Freem Jr. 88 died unexpectedly July 28th, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Calimesa, Ca.

He was born March 12, 1931 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Mitchell C & Helen Freem Sr.

Mitch was a lifeguard and taught lifeguard training to local kids. He joined the Navy at 17 and then after a couple of years joined the Marine Corps where he served for over 30 years. During that time in the Marine Corps he met our mother Shirley. They married and had 4 children. Sadly, Shirley 72, passed away in November 2003. They were married for 47 years.

After retirement he loved to play golf. One of his greatest pleasures was his family.

He was a loyal member in the VFW, American Legion, Cooties and MOAA.

He is survived by his 4 children Michele Celeste Collins McCandless, of Lake Forest, Nanette Sue Howe, of Calimesa, Dawn Dee Southard, of Calimesa & Mitchell Charles Freem III and his wife Gina (Donohoe), of Lake Forest; 8 grandchildren, Michael, Jaime, Mitchell, Nikki, Garrett, Ashley, Matthew & Jenna; 5 great grandchildren Jadin, Gabe, Peyton, Lyla and Kaislee.

    We are sadden by your loss, and will be honored to attend the services. Although we have never had the pleasure of meeting him, he sounds like such a wonderful man with a huge heart that loved his family and was an honorable military hero.
