A Life of Love, Faith, Sacrifice, and Service
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
— 2 Timothy 4:7
With heavy hearts, but with gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Misere George Fortune, lovingly known as George, who went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2026, at 3:00 PM, at the age of 92.
George's life was an extraordinary testimony of perseverance, courage, sacrifice, and love.
Born into extreme poverty in Haiti, George understood hardship from an early age. Yet, rather than allowing his circumstances to define his future, he chose to pursue a better life—not only for himself, but for the family he loved so deeply. With determination, courage, and an unwavering commitment to providing greater opportunities for his loved ones, he made the life-changing decision to leave Haiti and build a new beginning in Venezuela.
His journey was not simply one of moving from one country to another. It was a journey of hope, sacrifice, and the belief that the next generation deserved opportunities he had never been given.
For 62 beautiful years, George shared his life with his beloved wife, Immaculada Surpris de Fortune. Together, they built a family rooted in love, perseverance, and commitment. Their marriage stood as a testament to enduring devotion and the strength of a lifelong partnership.
George was a proud father of four children: Emanuel Fortune, Lidia Fortune, Michelle Fortune, and Jorge Fortune. His family was among his greatest accomplishments, and the sacrifices he made throughout his life were driven by his desire to see those he loved succeed and prosper.
But George's heart extended far beyond his own family.
Having experienced poverty firsthand, he never forgot those who struggled. One of his greatest passions was fighting for impoverished communities around the world and seeking ways to improve the lives of others. He believed that every person deserved dignity, opportunity, and hope, regardless of where they were born or the circumstances they faced.
He measured success not simply by what a person could accomplish for themselves, but by the positive difference they could make in the lives of others.
His greatest desire was to leave this world better than he found it.
Later in life, George found a deeper relationship with God. His faith became a meaningful part of his journey, and attending church every Sunday alongside his family brought him joy, peace, and spiritual fulfillment.
His story reminds us that it is never too late to draw closer to God, to experience His grace, and to discover the eternal hope found in Jesus Christ.
George's legacy cannot be measured in years alone. It lives in the family he raised, the sacrifices he made, the communities he sought to uplift, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
From humble beginnings in Haiti to a life spanning nations and generations, George demonstrated that a person's beginnings do not determine the impact they can have on the world.
He came from very little, gave everything he could, and leaves behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations.
Although his earthly journey has come to an end, his example of perseverance, compassion, generosity, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.
We celebrate his 92 years of life, honor his extraordinary journey, and find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through his family and all those whose lives were made better because of him.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”
— Matthew 25:21 (KJV)
Rest in peace, George.Your journey was remarkable. Your sacrifices were not in vain. Your legacy will live forever in our hearts.
