Minoru
Akagawa
March 10, 1947 – June 9, 2026
O’Connor Mortuary
10:00 - 11:00 am (Pacific time)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Minoru Akagawa, beloved husband, father and friend, who departed this life on June 9, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on March 10, 1947 in Japan, Minoru's remarkable journey took him from his early life in his homeland to the shores of America, where he found both love and success.
Minoru’s professional legacy began in Japan, where he was driven by an indomitable will to create a better life. After the war, with little support or mentorship, he moved to America, seizing an opportunity to work for Seiko Watch Company, where he started their robotic division. He was then sent to New York to open their sales division. His career in mechanical engineering was marked by creativity and ambition, culminating in the establishment of his own successful company in Silicon Valley, where he employed over 100 people and built a reputation for hosting joyful company gatherings.
In his personal life, Minoru found love with Mary, whom he met serendipitously during a vacation. After a long-distance romance filled with heartfelt phone calls and letters, they married on July 28, 1979 and built a beautiful family together. Minoru was the proud father of Katie and Andrew, embracing every moment spent with them and later their children—his cherished grandchildren, Keila, Austin, Mark, and Leila.
A passionate golf enthusiast, Minoru dedicated many hours to the sport, whether golfing with friends or practicing in his treasured backyard putting green of their Foothill Ranch, CA home where he and Mary had moved to be closer to family. He was also a former member of the Rotary Club and active member of the Coto de Caza Country Club, fostering friendships and connections throughout his life.
Minoru was not only a devoted family man but also a source of inspiration—a self-made individual whose remarkable journey and strong internal drive were a testament to his character. Minoru Akagawa will be honored for his life and legacy in a memorial service that will be held on June 19th, 2026, at 10am at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 during which friends and family will gather to celebrate his extraordinary life and the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In this time of mourning, the Akagawa family is holding tight to the treasured memories of his love, wisdom and laughter. He will be remembered forever in the hearts of his wife, Mary, his children, Katie and Andrew, their spouses and his beloved grandchildren.
