Obituary

Michael Norman McCormick, 71, of Laguna Niguel, California, entered into Eternal Life on Friday, September 27, 2024. Born on March 1, 1953 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Michael was the son of the late William McCormick of Suffield, Connecticut and the late Lillian McCormick of Boca Raton, Florida. Michael moved from New York to Southern California in 1988 and settled in Orange County, California. In April 1989, Michael and Jean, his wife,  were married in Huntington Beach, California.

Michael received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the New England College in New Hampshire. He began his career working for American Express in New York City and went on to serve as the Director of Merchant Expansion and Planning for the United States.  Over the years he served in management positions at Showtime, Warner Communications, and American Express. He then designed, built and operated a successful restaurant in Port Washington, New York. Michael then returned to the credit card processing industry as the cofounder of Bancard Systems. After Bancard Systems was sold, he went on to create Smart Card Professionals which offered innovative fundraisers and strategic integrated fintech incentives.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, to all who knew him. Known for his generosity, Michael touched the lives of many people. He enjoyed creating gourmet food experiences for family and friends. He had a passion for snow skiing and taught family and friends how to ski in Deer Valley, Utah over the years. He traveled extensively with his wife, Jean, and they enjoyed exploring new places together.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-five years, Jean McCormick; his daughter, Melissa McCormick of Frederick, Maryland; his daughter, Jennifer McCormick of Laguna Niguel, California; his son, Jeffrey McCormick of Laguna Niguel, California; his brother, Bradley McCormick of Boca Raton, Florida; his brother, William McCormick of San Clemente, California; and his grandson, Caleb McCormick of Frederick, Maryland; and many dear relatives and friends.

His family will receive relatives and friends at Vigil on Monday, October 14 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA 92653. A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Michael McCormick will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 33926 Calle la Primavera, Dana Point, CA 92629. The burial will follow on Thursday, October 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Cemetery, at 24754 Trabuco Road, Lake Forest, CA 92630.
