Obituary

Sevcsisin Jr., Michael John, 81, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2010, surrounded by his children after courageous battle with lung disease. Born at home on Nov. 25, 1928 in Bayonne, New Jersey, to parents who came to America in 1899 to escape the Bolshevik regime in Russia, he was the youngest of four children. Known as ‘Mike,’ he attended and graduated from Bayonne Technical High School in 1946, and enlisted in the Army at the end of World War II, where he was eventually part of the occupying forces in Germany. Once out of the military, he met his future wife, Patricia ‘Pat’ Mulvaney Sevcsisin, and they were married a year later, with Pat helping to support him as he attended Saint Peter’s Jesuit College in Jersey City, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting. Known for his commanding presence, strong head for business and soft heart, he spent more than 30 years as an executive in corporate finance. Eventually transferring to Southern California in 1974 for work, he remained for the next 36 years. Completely devoted to his wife of 48 years, Pat, he passed away only 24 hours after her death. A true love story with many years in the making, Mike lived out his final days caring for his wife as she battled cancer, all the while battling a terminal illness himself. A devout Catholic, Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus service organization, he was a member of the Fourth Degree, previously serving as Faithful Navigator and Grand Knight, as well as treasurer for chapter charities. He is survived by his son, Michael Yvonne, and her daughters Lori Joseph Abbate, and Patti Andy Juric, as well as nine grandchildren, Ethan, Emily and Amanda Sevcsisin, and Crystal Dysthe; Michael and Kathleen Abbate; and Conor, Colby and Keely Juric. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Mildred Ebert of Clearwater, Florida, as well as many numerous close friends. A Rosary is to be held in her honor at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14, at Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church in Lake Forest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Saddleback Valley, 23521 Paseo de Valencia, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.
