Michael Joseph Craig
January 10, 1954 – April 11, 2026

Michael Joseph Craig, 72, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Mission Viejo, California. Born on January 10, 1956, in Butte, Montana, he was the son of Margaret Harris Craig and Anthony Joseph Craig.

Mike was the youngest of seven siblings: Tony and Hugh (identical twins), Patrick, Suellen, Mary Kathleen, and Katie. He attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and went on to graduate from Boys Central High School. After taking classes at Montana Tech in Butte, he enrolled at the University of Montana to study Business Administration, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1980.

While building his own business, Mike was a dedicated professional who never fully retired, even when he began to scale back his workload. He served as a partner at Interim Controller (2014–2022) and was the treasurer of Polymeric Interconnect, Inc (2002–2023). He continued his work as a CPA in his private practice until he passed.

Friends and colleagues knew Mike as exceptionally kind, considerate, and thoughtful. He cared deeply about the happiness and financial well-being of others. A remarkable example of this occurred during the COVID-19 crisis, when he stepped in to help several friends apply for unemployment insurance and donated his CPA skills to guide them through applying for government loans they were unaware of, ultimately saving their business.

Although Mike was raised in the hard-drinking town of Butte, Montana, he achieved a milestone he was immensely proud of: celebrating 24 years of sobriety on April 6 of this year.

He had a lifelong passion for photography. Mike spent countless hours hiking in Glacier National Park, capturing its majestic, natural beauty through his lens. He was also highly regarded for his striking photographs that captured the unique character and spirit of "Butte America."

In May 2018, Mike traveled to Donegal, Ireland, to meet his extended Craig and Shovlin relatives. He was welcomed with open warmth and felt incredibly at home there.

Mike is survived by his sister, Katie, as well as several nieces, nephews, and their children. He will be remembered as a deeply kind and thoughtful man whose gentle spirit and generosity will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mike was cremated and his wishes were to come home to Montana. He had a beautiful place in mind for his ashes to be scattered by his family on a date yet to be determined.
