Obituary

Mew Lun Wong (Lunny) passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 at a boarding care home in San Clemente, CA.

She was born Mew Lun Hee on July 25, 1926 in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii and was the youngest and last surviving of six siblings, including brothers Hong Min, Hong Shin, Gilbert, and sisters Roberta and Mew Sin.  Lunny first moved to Honolulu to attend high school at Mid Pacific and then to Oregon State University where she graduated in 1949 studying home economics.

She worked at Hawaiian Electric in Honolulu before marrying Donald W. Wong (1921-2012), an electrical engineer at Rockwell International. They first lived in Downey and then Orange, California, where they lived for over 40 years before moving to Dana Point, California in 2005.  Lunny obtained her teaching credentials and for many years taught home economics at Spurgeon Intermediate School in Santa Ana, California.

After retirement she and Donald enjoyed travelling to many countries around the world.  Among the most memorable was visiting London where they had high tea with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.  Lunny had a passion for cooking, especially Hawaiian food such as lau lau and lomi lomi salmon.  She also enjoyed knitting and sewing for her family and friends.

Lunny lived independently until a month before her passing and enjoyed sharing her knowledge and wisdom with others she cared deeply about.

Mew Lun is survived by her son Nathan (Mia) and grandson David of Dana Point, California and was laid to rest in El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forest, California.
