Obituary

Max Weismair

Maximilian Weismair of Mission Viejo, California passed away on May 21, 2025 after a long and fulfilling life of ninety-seven years. Affectionately known as “Max”, he was born on May 8, 1928, in Vienna, Austria. After World War II, he completed his university studies thus beginning an accomplished career in structural engineering lasting over fifty-five years.

Departing from Europe in 1960, Max first emigrated to Canada eventually settling in the United States. He officially became a citizen in 1969 and not long after, met and married his wife Peggy Weismair in San Francisco. The couple started a family, moving to Mission Viejo in 1972 where they remained.

Max was an avid hiker, photographer, and fan of the ballet. Over the years, he organized numerous trips to the High Sierras and Lake Tahoe documenting the natural landscape and family (and friends) through thousands of photographs and slides. He loved the ballet and never missed an opportunity to attend a performance, both amateur and professional.

He continued to learn long after his retirement taking classes, traveling the world, and of course reading. He was a student at heart and filled his library with an eclectic mix of poetry, novels, and nonfiction.

Max was steadfast in his Catholic faith. He regularly attended St. Kilian’s Church, participated in retreats, and literally gave himself to hundreds donating well over twenty gallons of blood through the Red Cross. His kind and gentle nature will always be remembered along with his thick Viennese accent.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peggy in 2012 and is survived by his children, Krista Weismair Hemric and Kurt Weismair, his son-in-law Mark Hemric, his daughter-in-law Shana Wien, and his grandchildren, Kirra and Caden Hemric and Olivia Weismair.
