Mary Jo Franko Selby
August 24, 1948 — October 20, 2014

Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Ursula and Robert Franko she also resided in Philadelphia, PA; Barrington, IL; Brookfield, WI; Dallas, TX; Sudbury, MA; and Newport Beach, CA. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Fred; sons Brad Selby (Kiersten) of Naperville, IL, Reed Selby (Megan) of San Francisco, CA; grandsons Trent and Wes Selby; and granddaughter Mattie Selby. She is further survived by her brothers, Robert Franko, Dan Franko, and Tom Franko.

Mary Jo was blessed with the unique ability to make everyone with whom she came in contact feel better about themselves and their lives. Her presence would light up a room when she entered. An active member of the Catholic Church, she was a greeter at Our Lady Queen of Angels. An animal lover, she volunteered at the Orange County Animal Rescue and participated in numerous charitable organizations.

The family will receive friends at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Dr., Newport Beach, 92660 at 10 am October 27th. The funeral mass will follow at 10:30. Following the mass there will be celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Orange County Rescue Mission, 1 Hope Drive, Tustin, CA, 92782.

  3. What can we all say…..We all loved your wife, Fred and your mother,Brad and Reed.
    I know I physically was not around much, but it was always as if we were never apart whenever we were chatting ….It was as if it had been just yesterday since we talked….It was a once in a lifetime friend…I truly still feel her presence …..and just will have such wonderful memories to carry me until we do meet again. As I mentioned before, your Mother’s spirit is there and in a quiet, unexpected moment you will feel her..She will always be there for you….PLease know our family will keep you in our thoughts and prayers …..carry on your sweet Mother’s gift of just enjoying life and people…
