Mary Virginia Scott's Obituary

Mary Virgina Pickering Scott of Irvine CA, formerly of Quincy MA, passed away on October 20, 2013 at the age of 53 after battling a long bout of cancer. She is survived by her husband Richard B. Scott, and children Justin, Stephanie, Cassandra, Bridget, and Sophia. She is the daughter of Mary Joyce Pickering and the late Ralph A. Pickering. She is also survived by her siblings Kim Villanueva, Donna Lee Gulizia, Ralph Pickering, and John Pickering. She also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

Mary has been described as: nurturing, vivacious, determined, compassionate, funny, inspiring, generous, courageous, inviting, selfless, and strong. Anyone who met her was instantly moved by her illuminating smile which could truly change the world.

Mary frequently dropped in her own little song and dance in conversations, reflecting her positive spirit. It was once said that Mary gave 100% in everything she did but because she did 100 different things she was 10,000 times the person. She was never boring. She has always been real – had real emotion, felt each emotion, and expressed it without holding back. She always loved the house filled with friends, family and laughter.

Quotes frequently heard by Mary include: "because it's all good," "our God is an awesome God," "women never start a fight but we can finish one," "love you big bunches," "my baby's coming home," 'save room for the holy ghost' and "rock on."

Mary expressed before her passing that she believed death should be a celebration of life and that she hopes all her loved ones will remember that when they think of her.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at 9am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 51 Market Place in Irvine, CA. Reception to follow at the church. There will also be a mass and celebration of life service in Massachusetts at a future date.

Cards of condolences may be sent to O'Connor Funeral Home in Laguna Hills. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc. at mda.org or to The Lupus Foundation of America at lupus.org.
