IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Maxine
Murphy
February 21, 1929 – June 19, 2023
Mary Maxine Murphy, beloved mother and wife passed away peacefully, Monday, June 19, 2023 at the age of 94. Mary was born in Los Angeles, California on February 21, 1929 to George and Florence Berry. She is preceded in death by her two brothers George Berry and Patrick Berry. She graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1947 and during junior and senior year worked part time as a clerk at the John Muir Library. After graduation she worked as a Clerk Typist in the Underwriting Department of Occidental Life Insurance Company for approximately 3-4 years in downtown Los Angeles.
On August 5, 1950 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Los Angeles, Mary married the love of her life Clarence Albert Murphy who preceded her in death in 2019. Shortly after they married, they bought a new home in Gardena, CA where they raised their family of six children, Michael, Christopher, Marianne, Therese, Thomas and Patricia. Mary was a dedicated mother first and foremost and she raised her children to be independent. During her lifetime she was always interested in learning more, she read and stayed current on nutrition, kept fit by running which included many 5K and 10K events, was part of square and round dancing groups with her husband and accompanied her family on many camping and road trips. Once her youngest child started high school Mary returned to school to refresh her skills and then worked 10 years for Pacific Bell where she retired in 1989 as an administrative assistant. She and Clarence sold their family home in 1989 and moved to a new townhome in Rancho Santa Margarita where they proceeded to enjoy travel, square and round dancing and their eventual 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mary was a faithful Catholic and lived her life in harmony with God. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. She will be greatly missed.
