Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mary Margaret Goddard on January 19, 2022 at her home in Mission Viejo from pancreatic cancer. She fought like a warrior and with such grace. She was 80 years old.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, David; children; David (Rebecca), Marla (Ronald), Elisa (Craig), Monica (Paul), Bridget; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brother John (Marissa) as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Jose and Elisa Correia; brothers Joseph and Armand; sister Marlene.

Mary Margaret went by many names; Margaret, Nannie and Mags.

She was born on May 8th, 1941 in San Diego California to Elisa and Jose Correia. She attended St. Agnes Catholic School and Academy of Our Lady of Peace High School.

She met her husband at a high school dance and married David Goddard July 17, 1960.

Margaret attended cosmetology school to become a beautician. She then had 5 children in 5 1/2 years. She volunteered at Saint Barbara Catholic School where her children attended.  She worked in the library, cafeteria and cut the nuns hair.  She served on the St. Barbara’s women’s council for many years. Up until she was diagnosed, she continued to meet monthly with the ladies from St. Barbara’s for lunch. In the 1980’s Margaret went to work at Nordstrom as a sales associate and remained there for 19 years.

Her love for her family was immeasurable. She helped in every way possible by being the most amazing Nannie Margaret to her 12 grandchildren. She attended numerous school and sporting events and cheered them on.

Margaret had many friends that she cherished and who loved her dearly.

Margaret LOVED food and desserts in particular. She was a master dessert and cake maker. Her food was loved and craved by many. You never left her home hungry, ever. You were blessed if you ever ate any of the food she prepared. If you asked her to bring a dessert, she brought several.

Margaret loved to help anyone with whatever she could. She was a devout Catholic and loved the Rosary.

Margaret loved to dance and loved music. She brought life to every gathering.

She brought so much joy, love and light to this world. It clearly was a better place with her in it.

She has left an enormous hole in our hearts.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Mission Hospital, City of Hope and all the amazing people who dropped off food and sent cards of encouragement and prayer continually while she battled pancreatic cancer. We can’t thank you enough for all your kindness, love and support.

The funeral and celebrating the life of Mary Margaret Goddard will be on Monday, February 28th at 10:30am, at St. Kilian Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to City of Hope and Mission Hospital Leonard Cancer Center.

  1. I spent most of my childhood at my Aunt Elisa’s house with Margaret, her sister, Marlene and brother Armand as my baby sitters. Every day spent with them was filled with uncontrollable laughter and crazy shenanigans! To this day, they are my absolute fondest memories of my childhood! I was honored to have been her flower girl when she married David and my visits with her over the years after she moved to Orange County were always memorable! Watching her beautiful babies grow up into amazing adults has been an absolute pleasure to witness. I love this family so much and I am so sad that my beautiful cousin is no longer here to share a laugh with. I have a lot of cousins but this family was among my favorites! I will miss her dearly but I take comfort in knowing that she is not alone. On the day she died, I could clearly hear the laughter coming from heaven when my mom, her beloved Tia Phyllis, her sister Marlene and brother Armand met her at the pearly gates. I know they are still up their howling in hysterics, rejoicing at being together once again. My deepest condolences to her husband David, her kids David, Marla, Elisa, Monica and Bridget and all her grand babies. Your mom loved you like no other! She was so proud of all of you. God speed Margaret. Til we meet again. Love always, Shelly
