Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Lombardo, who peacefully passed on April 5, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born November 5, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, to Nicolo and Conchetta Mondello, and grew up alongside her sister, Jenny. Mary often spoke of her blessed and rich childhood, filled with love, family traditions, and the deep bonds of her Italian heritage.

Mary married the love of her life, Anthony Joseph Lombardo, in 1954 and had two children, Vincent and Caren. They settled in Torrance, California, where they raised their children. In the late 1980s, Mary and Anthony purchased land and built a home in Mission Viejo, CA. After her husband’s passing in 1991, Mary remained in Mission Viejo, moving to Palmia, a 55+ gated community. In the mid 2000s, she relocated to Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas on the golf course to be closer to her daughter, Caren, and her two grandchildren, Gina and Antonio.

A proud resident of Fair Oaks Ranch, Mary embraced the beauty of her surroundings and fostered strong connections with her neighbors and friends, always greeting them with warmth and kindness. Mary joined The Center, in Boerne, where she spent several years enjoying activities and forming friendships, often sharing lunch with those she grew close to. During her time at The Center, Mary developed many cherished friendships and truly enjoyed her time there. Mary cherished all her phone calls with her long time friends and family members from California.

Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving presence in her family’s life, and a woman whose spirit could light up any room.

Mary was known for her fun and spunky personality. She had a way of making people smile, whether through her humor, her energy, or the warmth she shared so freely. She lived her life with heart and joy, always putting those she loved at the center of everything she did.

Mary’s life was characterized by her reverence for family, her compassion for others, and a reflective spirit that inspired many. She faced life’s challenges with grace and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege on knowing her.

She is survived by her two children, Vincent Lombardo, his wife Dianne, and Caren Lombardo Gaubatz. She is lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren, Anthony, Gina, Sophia and Antonio.

Caren provided dedicated and loving care for her mother, Mary, always ensuring she was comfortable and supported. She cooked her favorite Italian meals that she enjoyed. Mary looked forward to her daily phone calls with Caren, sharing about her activities at The Center and talking about her grandchildren.

Gina and Antonio will forever cherish the time they spent with her, the lessons she shared, and the love she gave so generously and unconditionally. Her lunch dates with Antonio were among her favorite moments, made even sweeter by the lemon pie he always brought. Antonio went on to join the AirForce, where he continued to enjoy his phone calls and FaceTime with his grandma.

Gina absolutely adored her grandma, and they shared a very close bond; Mary lovingly called Gina her “angel”. Gina was devoted to her, always present and willing to help with anything she needed and cherished the time she spent with her grandma. She lovingly taught Gina how to knit, sharing her talent as she created many beautiful pieces. Gina was excited about the tiny home she and Caren built for her on their property, happy to have her nearby and part of their daily lives. Grandma found great joy in the tiny home watching the horses out the window during the short time she was able to enjoy it.

Anthony called her often while he was at work. She loved hearing about his job but was worried he would get into trouble for talking on the phone. Mary cherished these phone calls as it was her connection with her long-distance grandchildren.

Sophia fondly remembers shared moments in the kitchen learning how to cook Mary’s favorite Italian dishes. These cooking lessons were filled with love, and her recipes will be cherished forever. Mary looked forward to phone calls from Sophia and Anthony where she eagerly asked about their lives, and lovingly shared about her own friends, for what sports team she was rooting, and the beautiful deer & birds she watched through her windows.

The funeral service to celebrate Mary Louis Lombardo’s remarkable life was held on April 16th, 2026 at 11:00am at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas; providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather and honor her memory.

In this time of loss, we invite all who knew and loved Mary to remember her with compassion and love, cherishing the beautiful moments shared together.

Mary will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
