Mary Angela Koenig was born June 24, 1922 in Oakland, California, the second of three daughters of Betsy and Bart Ghio. She attended UCLA, becoming a registered nurse. In 1948, she met USC pharmacy student Roger Koenig and on April 24th, they were married. Roger took her home to Sioux Falls, S.D. where they lived, built businesses, and raised two sons. In 1972, after years of promising, Roger brought her back to her beloved California. She nursed Roger's ill health for most of his adult life and in 1977, she lost the love of her life. On January 3, 2010 she died after a short illness.

She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Davis of Walnut Creek, CA and Catherine Percy of Solvang, CA; her sons Bart of Wilmar, MN and Bill of North Hollywood, CA; daughter-in-law Pauline Koenig of Orange, CA; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family plans a private burial and asks that donations in her memory be given to the Salvation Army.
