Obituary

In loving memory of Mary Jo Davis, a remarkable woman whose laughter and warmth touched everyone around her. She passed away peacefully in Capistrano Beach on November 25, 2024.

Mary Josephine Hollman was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Olga and Frank Hollman in 1935. She was the youngest of seven children. Following the sudden passing of her father when she was 5 years old, the family moved to Glendale, California, in search of new opportunities. She attended elementary school in Glendale, went on to John Burroughs Middle School, and graduated from Burbank High School in 1953.

During her senior year of high school, she met the love of her life, Lawrence “Curly” Davis. They married on February 14, 1956, and moved into the house where they first met. Together, they welcomed their son Mark, followed by daughters Mary Lynn and Kathleen, and their youngest son Glen.

After Curly’s sudden passing in 1964, Mary Jo devoted herself to raising their four children on her own with help of her supportive family. She worked various jobs to provide for them and loved taking family camping trips whenever they could. She also found joy in her hobbies, including bowling, playing cards, reading, and listening to music, among many others.

Mary Jo’s legacy lives on through her six grandchildren: Leona, Gabe, Luke, Jake, Micah, and Amber, and her three great-grandchildren: Cavan, Caleb, and Jonesy. Family was always at the heart of her life, and she treasured the times they all gathered, especially during the holidays.

A funeral service will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego at 1:30 pm on December 6, 2024, where Mary Jo will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Lawrence “Curly” Thomas Davis.
