Mary Jeanne Hauenstein Deane
December 4, 1943 – July 22, 2026
Mary Jeanne Hauenstein Deane, 82, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 22, 2026, in Laguna Hills, California. She was born on December 4, 1943, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Howard and Evelyn (Neiboer) Hauenstein. Mary grew up in East Grand Rapids and graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1961.
That same year, Mary married Charles Deane, and their family soon began to grow with the birth of Craig in 1961. In 1965, they moved to the San Francisco area, where their son Patrick was born in San Mateo in 1966. In 1969, the family settled in Orange County, California, and Jeff came along in 1974.
Mary earned her psychology degree from California State University, Fullerton, in 1983 and went on to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She built and ran her own practice, Mary J. Deane, Marriage and Family Therapy, Inc., in Newport Beach, guided by her belief in "empowering people to get to a more positive place." She practiced for nearly 40 years, helping countless individuals and couples, until her retirement around 2022.
Mary was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her faith was central to who she was throughout her life. She adored her children and grandchildren, and nothing brought her more joy than time with her family.
Mary is survived by her three sons, Craig Deane, Patrick "Pat" Deane, Jeffrey "Jeff" Deane; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Evelyn Hauenstein, and by her sister, Anne Hauenstein Jasinski (1938–2009).
The family will have a private service.
