Obituary

Mary Jo Dupree Di Giuro at age 94 ½ years old passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 in Laguna Woods, CA.  Mary Jo is remembered for her generous spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, her sweet southern accent, beautiful blue eyes, and of course, her love and caring for her family and friends. Mary Jo is survived by her daughters, JoAnna Di Giuro Moffitt (David) and Monica Di Giuro Clifton (Al), three granddaughters, Jennifer Moffitt Claar (Bryan), Jacquelyn Moffitt (Mitchell Park) and Julianna Moffitt, her sister Judy Dupree Beale (Danny) and brother Larry (Linda) Dupree and predeceased by her brothers Pete (Arleta) and Tommy Dupree.

Born on July 30, 1931, to Pete Warren Dupree Jr and Stacy Jo Cleo Crow Dupree in Batesville, AR, Mary Jo was a spirited and curious child. Her strong work ethic was shaped by life on the farm, where everyone was expected to do their part and waste was unheard of and where she learned to cook and sew at an early age.

Mary Jo grew up in Arkansas but her mother who had moved to San Pedro, CA convinced her to attend Harbor Jr College to get her undergraduate courses and that was where she met Nick Di Giuro. She was determined to keep her plan to attend Memphis State so returned to AR for a year but then decided to come back to CA to be with Nick. Mary Jo graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Accounting and Education.  Mary Jo loved the jobs she held as an accountant and bookkeeper over the years.

Mary Jo and Nick were married on February 7, 1954, and lived in San Pedro, Woodland Hills (where JoAnna and Monica were born), Saugus, El Toro (now Lake Forest), San Juan Capistrano, and lastly Laguna Hills, CA.

Mary Jo sewed many of her own clothes as well as for JoAnna and Monica.  She developed a love for knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and quilting.  She often knit sweaters for JoAnna and Monica and made clothes for their barbie dolls.

Mary Jo was an active volunteer as a Girl Scout Treasurer, Sunday School and VBS teacher, Church Building Committee for Geneva Presbyterian, and Mary Jo donated many of the knitted and crocheted caps she made to organizations helping cancer survivors.

Mary Jo survived another 10 years after Nick passed away in 2016. In 2020 Mary Jo was diagnosed with late onset Alzheimer's.  She was loved by her caregivers in her last years spent in Evergreen (the memory care facility) at Ivy Park of Wellington. She continued to recognize JoAnna and Monica and her close family members, despite her failing memory and her most often inability to speak.  Any chance we had to hear her speak was truly a gift and we are so grateful for the time we had with her.

We will greatly miss our sweet Mom, Grandma, Sister, Mary Jo.
