Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Cavanaugh Kelly. Mary passed away at home in Lake Forest, California on May 1, 2013.

Mary was born in Houston, Texas, on January 27, 1925. She was the youngest daughter of Ruby and Ray Cavanaugh. Mary went to grade school in Houston and after graduating from Milby High School started a career as a secretary. While working at Ellington Field Air Corps Base in Houston, she met the love of her life, Robert M. Kelly. They married and moved to New York. There they settled in Syosset, where they enjoyed wonderful friends and raised their four children, Robert Kelly, Susan Cressman, Laura Redanz and Madelyn Current. Mary was a homemaker and very involved with her family. Mary loved traveling, golf, friends, family, crafts, church and chocolate! In her later years, Mary lived in New York, California, Florida and spent some time in Colorado.

Mary was a beautiful woman with a kind heart, loving spirit and sweet temperament, someone everyone wanted to be like. She was such a lady! She always showed the love of Christ to others and was an example to all by the way she lived.

Mary loved her 3 sons-in-law, John, Bill and Lee who all loved to tease her. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, William, Phoebe, Kelly, Jonathan, Bryce, Shannon, Leandra and Breanna.

Mary is now in the loving arms of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Thank you all for your love and prayers. Grace and peace be to you all.

A celebration mass of Mary’s life will be held Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 at Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church, 21682 Lake Forest Drive, Lake Forest, California 92630 followed by a short reception. The family will continue on to a graveside service at the El Toro Memorial Park Cemetery.
