Mary Ann Gossett Stevens
April 27, 1934 – March 13, 2014

Mary Ann Gossett Stevens, age 79, passed away peacefully at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in San Clemente, California, on March 13, 2014. Her love of life and family supported and sustained her through her heroic battle with liver cancer during the last months of her life.

Mary Ann was born to Angelina (Cunico) and Frank Driver Gossett Sr. in Raton, New Mexico on April 27, 1934, the youngest of four children. Mary Ann grew up in a modest home supported by her loving mother following the early death of her father. A popular cheerleader at Raton High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Robby Stevens, shortly after graduation and remained married to him for 51 years until his death in 2003. Their son, Charles, was born in Raton in the fall of 1952.

Robby, Mary Ann and Charles moved to California in 1957. They settled in the city of Downey, where Robby worked as a union carpenter and Mary Ann was employed by General Telephone and then Verizon as an executive secretary, a career she excelled at for 35 years until she retired in 1994. Shortly after retirement, Mary Ann fulfilled a lifelong dream of living at the beach when she and Robby relocated to San Clemente where they spent their final years. During her retirement, Mary Ann enjoyed travelling with her family and friends around the country and the world, an adventurous spirit at heart. She also took great pleasure in learning to quilt and tole paint.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Helen Thomas and Dorothy Marchetti. She is survived by her son Charles Stevens, her daughter-in-law Susan Stevens, her brother Frank Driver Gossett Jr., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in New Mexico, Colorado, California and Wyoming.

In remembrance of Mary Ann’s life, family and friends are invited to a memorial service at El Toro Memorial Park on March 19th at 1:00PM.
