Obituary

Mary Ann (Bruckman) Dailey of Mission Viejo, age 75, was called home on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Her funeral service was held on Friday, October 31 at 9 am at St Kilian’s Catholic Church, Mission Viejo.

Mary, the oldest of three siblings, was born to Raymond Edward and Lois Mae Bruckman on January 12, 1939 in Rock Island, IL. She graduated from Alleman Catholic High School in 1957. She spent her early life in and around the Quad Cities where she met and married Donald Lewis Dailey of Athens, Ohio on September 10, 1960.

In the winter of 1985, Mary and Don moved the family to California. They lived in Brea, Irvine, and finally in Mission Viejo. While raising six children, Mary worked as a fashion buyer, secretary for John Deere, the Brea Chamber of Commerce and finally Hunt-Wesson where she retired in 2001.

Mary loved life, people, and never knew what it meant to sit still. Mary loved sharing her heart with everyone she met in hopes that the connections she made would enhance someone else’s journey through life. She enjoyed her family, quilting, crafts, genealogy, painting and sketching, and the Anaheim Ducks. Her favorite hobby was shopping, not for what she needed but for a gem that someone else might need even if they didn’t know they needed it. Her courage and strength inspired all who knew her.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband Don; children Shawn (Susan) Dailey of Hanford, CA, Kevin (Karen) Dailey of Kaysville, UT, Jamie (Michelle) Dailey of Huxley, IA, Julie (Robert) DeSplinter of Oceanside, CA, Roselyn (John) Mill of Rockford, MI and Mary “Katie” (Greg) Spackman of Franklin, TN; sister Bonnie (Dan) Lyphout; brother John (Nan) Bruckman; twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchldren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center (www.cancer.ucla.edu) or the New Mellery Abbey at 6632 Mellery Circle, Peosta, IA 52068 (www.newmellery.org).

  5. May the family find comfort in loving memories, and in knowing that God is “close to those that are broken at heart; and he saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) Our loving Creator, Jehovah God, has promised to soon “swallow up death forever…and wipe the tears from all faces.” (Isaiah 25:8) With deepest sympathy.
