Martha Rebecca McGowan
May 22, 1926 – August 16, 2022
Martha McGowan (aka Marty) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in her home in Laguna Niguel, CA. Presided in death by husband Marion (Mac) McGowan, Nov 2004 after 61 years of marriage.
She will be remembered for her deep love of family and country, humorous and playful behavior, smile and twinkling eyes, and genuine ability for caring.
She is survived by her beloved son and daughter, Dennis McGowan and Barbara Rubio, and their four grandchildren; Michelle McGowan, Brent Rubio, Trevor McGowan, Dana McGowan. She is also survived by her sister and nephew, Lora Ellis and Michael Ellis.
Growing up in San Diego when the town was still young she met soul mate Mac McGowan.
She graduated from San Diego High School in 1944, having married Mac McGowan the year prior before he left for the War. After High School she attended college and became a homemaker raising her children. With a passionate heart and the desire to serve others, she began her 25 year career in the medical field.
Martha loved traveling extensively with Mac. She was an avid lover of music, theater, and gardening. She had a strong desire to improve her community and was able to do this by supporting Shriners International, joining The Red Hat Society, and being active in her church.
After retiring to Lake San Marcus in 1996, Martha moved to Laguna Niguel in Jan 2015 to be near family.
Plans for a private burial at Riverside National Cemetery on September 14th 2022. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to your favorite charity.
