Obituary

Marjorie Shennan Casady was Promoted to Glory on Monday, February 9, 2015 from her home in Laguna Hills, CA. She was born in Spokane, WA on May 26, 1920 to William John and Mary Elizabeth Austin.

Throughout her life she had been active in providing service to others, first through the Salvation Army as a soldier, cadet, then later as an officer. During World War II she would play the piano at USO functions for military personnel, and serve hot meals through the Salvation Army Canteen truck.

In 1944, she met and married William Byron Shennan and they were stationed at the Corps in Inglewood, CA. They were married for seventeen years until his passing in 1961, and had two sons, William, Jr. and Robert.

Marjorie worked for many years at the California Lutheran Homes as an Administrative Assistant, then, later, for the City of Monterey Park. It was while she worked at California Lutheran Homes that she met and later married Murray Casady. They were married for 20 years until his passing.

Marjorie was always active in church events and loved to work with children. In her later years, she was actively involved at Church of the Cross Lutheran in Laguna Woods where she served in the Special Needs Ministry that brought her a great deal of joy. When she was being of service to others, she was at her happiest.

In her later years she could be found in her favorite chair with a good book, as reading was her hobby. In addition, every morning she would begin in prayer and would pray for each family member and others she was fond of. Amongst the family, her known as “The family Prayer Warrior”. Her faith was an important part of who she was.

She is preceded in death by her siblings, Eva, Jackie, William, Betty Jean, and Darlene. Her sons Bill and Carol Shennan, Bob and Lorene Shennan, stepsons Mike and Bonnie Casady, Wilbur Casady, and grandchildren Kristin and John Vencill, Tom and Marissa Shennan, and Brian Holst, survive her. She also has numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at Church of the Cross In Laguna Woods, followed by interment at El Toro Memorial Park.
