Obituary

In Loving Memory: Marjorie Handley

November 12, 1929 – May 30, 2026

Marjorie Lou Russell Handley Neville Sutter, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026 in Dana Point, CA, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on November 12, 1929, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Marguerite Moser Russell and Francis “Frank” Russell. After graduating from Eagle Grove High School, she pursued her vocation in nursing, graduating from the program at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. It was there that she began her dedicated career in service to others and met her first husband, the late William “Bill” Thomas Handley.

In 1965, Marjorie and William relocated to California, which would become their lifelong home. Following William’s passing, she was blessed with two further marriages to the late Delmar Neville and the late Theodore Sutter, both of whom she cherished.

A woman of deep faith, Marjorie found great fulfillment in her Bible studies and her lifelong commitment to service. She and William were passionate supporters of the Boy Scouts, and both were honored with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for their exemplary volunteer work. Her vibrant spirit was also reflected in her love for painting, golf, sewing, and gardening. An adventurous soul, Marjorie enjoyed traveling around the world and exploring the United States through her passion for RVing.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, William Handley, Delmar Neville, and Theodore Sutter; her parents, Marguerite Moser Russell and Francis Russell; her brothers, Leo Russell and his wife Louise, Thomas Russell and his wife Helen, James Russell and his wife Judy; her sister, Shirley Russell Benton and her husband Evan; and her daughter-in-law, Lisa Jeanne Lysdal Rowe Handley, who was married to her son Keith.

She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Keeling and her husband Robert; her five children with William Handley: Thomas William Handley and his wife Susan Evans Handley, Phillip James Handley and his wife Pamela Owen Handley, Francis Keith Handley, Margaret Lou Handley Brown, and Robert Russell Handley and his wife Lisa Arends Handley. She was a cherished grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, as well as a beloved stepmother and step-grandmother to the Neville, Sutter, Rowe, and Malkin families.

Marjorie leaves behind a legacy of strength. She will be remembered most for her boundless love and the unwavering dedication she held for her family and her God. She was truly an encouragement to all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
