IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marion Elizabeth
Smith
April 17, 1929 – October 23, 2025
Marion Elizabeth Smith, was born April 17, 1929 in Los Angeles to Rudolph and Frances Yelinek, 1st Generation Czechoslovakians. She was the youngest of 3 children.
While working at the Los Angeles DWP, she developed a fondness for skiing and had many close girlfriends that would head up to Mammoth for ski trips. Graduated from USC in 1959 with a Degree in Education and began teaching Elementary School in LA. She had a great love for travel, spent summers in exotic places and in 1960, took a solo 10 week trip around-the-world.
Met her husband, Harold at a Young Republicans mixer and married in 1963. Started a family shortly after with Stacey born in Glendale in 1965. They moved to Denver where Lindsay was born in 1971. Continued to the East Coast to Boston for Dad’s work in Oil and Gas Investments. Marion kept busy as a housewife and active Mother to the girls and all of their activities. Family road trips in the summers and ski trips in the winter together will always be lasting memories we cherish. She enjoyed Gardening and Bridge clubs and seemed to find those groups to be active in any city we moved to. From Illinois, to Texas and Oklahoma, always finding great friends that she kept in touch with for years. After finally moving back to California, got the teaching bug again and became a Substitute Teacher for Saddleback School District. Marion and Stacey joined a Czech Genealogy group in 2008. They enjoyed researching and learning about our ancestors together. Stacey is still an active member of the group.
A huge thank you to Mark and Jean, her caregivers who were so loving, caring and treated her like family for the last 4 years. We are so grateful you both came into our lives.
She is survived by her daughters, Stacey Smith and Lindsay Aaron, son-in-law Jim and Grandson Jake, and many nieces and nephews. Marion left us at 96 years young, peacefully in her sleep. She is now in the Lord’s Caring Hands, flying with the Angels.
