Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away on her 53rd birthday, October 17, 2016. She fought a brief but fierce battle with cancer never imagining she wouldn’t win. Those who knew Marilyn described her as funny, intelligent, wise, positive, dependable, and loyal. She was a loving woman who exemplified the Savior in her acts of charity small and large. Her heart and home were always open.

As a professional, Marilyn practiced law for 27 years all at one firm, Morris, Polich and Purdy, in Los Angeles, California. Those who worked with her have remarked that she was one of the hardest working and dedicated lawyers they knew. She was an accomplished author and speaker. Marilyn successfully represented clients in state and federal courts across the country. Although Marilyn had numerous titles behind her name, Mother was her most prized.

She met the love of her life at age 26, and after a lengthy courtship these extreme opposites married for time and all eternity on August 8, 1996. Marilyn treasured Paul as a great husband, father and best friend. Together they created a beautiful family.

Marilyn is survived by: Husband Paul, children Cole 16, Claire 15, Lauren 12, her parents Stanley R Muir, Joan Stringham Muir, mother-in-law Fay Castleton Jager. Her sisters and brother, Paula (Robert) Brammer, Scott (Peggy) Muir, Kim (Todd) Brimley. Marilyn was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at Mission Hospital for their incredible care. Also, thank you to the Hospice nurses of St. Joseph for the love they showed Marilyn in her final hours.

We are grateful to our Father in Heaven for the tender mercies he has shown the family as Marilyn passed back into his care. God bless ’til we meet again.

Doug and I have known Marilyn and Paul since our little league days in Ladera Ranch. Marilyn was such an easy person to talk to and had a wonderful spirit about her. I always admired her ability to juggle both work and family. I am so sad for her family right now that I cant even put it in to words, but I know they will be comforted by their belief in eternal families and they will be with her again some day.

  4. My sincere condolences to Marilyn’s family. Marilyn was a lovely person.

I have know Marilyn all of her life, as children we grew up just a few houses away from each other. At Bountiful High School, she was a fierce debater and a fun friend. Many a Saturday night was spent at the Muir home watching SNL together and laughing. We would tease Marilyn about her dates, because they had to meet our approval before she could go out with them. We were both at USU together, and I really enjoyed seeing and talking to her when we saw each other on campus. She was a dedicated student and a hard worker, which resulted in her graduating summa cum laude from USU. She was brilliant in many ways, and always very positive, humble and always kind. She had an infectious laugh and special sparkle in her eyes. My life has been blessed through knowing her.

When my son served his LDS mission in California some ten years ago, she invited him into their home for meals and fellowship. It meant so much to this Michigan mom to know that he was with someone I knew, loved and trusted. Her care for him at that time was invaluable to both of us.

It is hard to believe that she is no longer with us on this side of the veil, but I look forward to seeing her on the other side some day. I pray that the “peace that surpasseth all understanding” may rest upon her husband, children, parents, siblings and friends. It is at times like these I am so thankful to know that “we can be together, forever, someday” through the blessed Atonement of Jesus Christ. Heavenly Father has a plan, sometimes we do not understand what that is, but as we put our trust in Him we know all will be well someday. Sending much love and prayers for Marilyn’s family and loved ones. How I wish I could be there with you at this difficult time.

    “Until we meet” again….<3
