Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away on her 53rd birthday, October 17, 2016. She fought a brief but fierce battle with cancer never imagining she wouldn’t win. Those who knew Marilyn described her as funny, intelligent, wise, positive, dependable, and loyal. She was a loving woman who exemplified the Savior in her acts of charity small and large. Her heart and home were always open.

As a professional, Marilyn practiced law for 27 years all at one firm, Morris, Polich and Purdy, in Los Angeles, California. Those who worked with her have remarked that she was one of the hardest working and dedicated lawyers they knew. She was an accomplished author and speaker. Marilyn successfully represented clients in state and federal courts across the country. Although Marilyn had numerous titles behind her name, Mother was her most prized.

She met the love of her life at age 26, and after a lengthy courtship these extreme opposites married for time and all eternity on August 8, 1996. Marilyn treasured Paul as a great husband, father and best friend. Together they created a beautiful family.

Marilyn is survived by: Husband Paul, children Cole 16, Claire 15, Lauren 12, her parents Stanley R Muir, Joan Stringham Muir, mother-in-law Fay Castleton Jager. Her sisters and brother, Paula (Robert) Brammer, Scott (Peggy) Muir, Kim (Todd) Brimley. Marilyn was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at Mission Hospital for their incredible care. Also, thank you to the Hospice nurses of St. Joseph for the love they showed Marilyn in her final hours.

We are grateful to our Father in Heaven for the tender mercies he has shown the family as Marilyn passed back into his care. God bless ’til we meet again.

  3. Prior to deciding to join Morris Polich & Purdy, Marilyn was the hiring partner at the time. I had concerns and reservations about joining the firm and was really torn in what to do. Marilyn really took the time to explain the pros and cons and because we are of the same faith, she was able to provide me with insight that I would not have otherwise received. It meant a lot to me that she took time out of her busy schedule to help me with my decision and I will always be grateful to her for that.

Marilyn was a fighter and she zealously fought for her clients, but even though she was a passionate advocate she always maintained a happiness, a good attitude, and great perspective. She will be greatly missed and I hope and trust that her and her family will find peace, comfort, and love during this difficult time. Matthew 11:28 states: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden if light.”

No words can describe the loss and how difficult if must be for her family to carry on without their mother and spouse. I hope and pray that Marilyn’s family finds comfort and peace in the knowledge that they will one day she her again and that her family can be reunited. My family loved Marilyn and her family and we will treasure the memories of her, our friendship and association with her as well as the time that we were so blessed to share with her.
