Obituary

Marilyn Mildred Nord, long-time resident of Mission Viejo, passed away peacefully in her home on November 16, 2010, with her family by her side. A devoted wife, sister, aunt and good friend, she will forever be loved and cherished.

Marilyn was born on August 15th, 1936 to Lowry and Mildred Morton in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from East Detroit High School in 1954. On Oct 19th, 1957 Marilyn married Gale Nord, and they moved to California in 1958, eventually settling in Mission Viejo. Marilyn had a long and successful career in the commercial and residential construction industry. She worked for 30 years as Executive Administrator to Harry Tancredi, President of Tanco Corporation, Santa Ana, CA.

Marilyn had many interests from reading to traveling to her walks and visits to the gym. She was a dedicated and active member of the Children’s Home Society for many years, during which time she frequently hosted charitable events, raising money for a variety of children’s services.

Her family was of utmost important to Marilyn; her home was often the gathering place for holiday celebrations, dinners and family events. Marilyn was always full of life and laughter – and a charming and delightful hostess. She and her late husband Gale, married for fifty years, made everyone feel welcome whether it be a formal occasion or a spontaneous pool party. When Marilyn entered a room, people noticed her for her fashion sense, her wit and humor. She enjoyed good food, good conversation and a bit of the bubbly – all while surrounded by the people she loved and cared about.

Marilyn is survived by her brother Lowry Rush Morton and his wife Helen, her dear friend. She was also dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews: Jerry Linda Majer and children Jason and Kristy; Stephen Remelin; Nancy Majer and children Alysa, Bryan and Cassi; Dawn Alex Laurant and children Nicholas and Gabriel; Lex Gable and daughter Skye Elparin; Chelsea and Justin Majer; Susan Brian Renwick and children Lauren and Blake; Jeff DeWars and Dawn Eric Huffine. She was also loved by the Nord family and her life-long friends Joe and Mary Wadsworth and family.

  1. Many fond memories with Marilyn and Gale throughout my childhood years. Marilyn and my mother Terry Shabas Belvedere were very good friends since childhood until her passing. Although I hadn’t seen her in years, she is missed. Thanks for the memories !
