Obituary

Margot DePatie passed away at the age of 78 on January 12, 2021 in Mission Viejo, CA after a 9-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY and grew up in Sarasota, FL. In 1964, Margot moved to San Diego where she met her husband, Gene. They spent all the ensuing years in California, including the past 31 years in Coto de Caza.

Margot was a loving person who cared about her family, friends and animals. Mother to Beth and Paul, she championed their efforts as they grew to be responsible adults with successful careers of their own. She took great pride in their accomplishments.

She cared for innumerable cats and dogs during her life and always showed them affection and devotion. Later in life, she turned  to horses and became a developed Dressage rider who realized a childhood dream. Once committed to an endeavor, Margot threw herself into it with full dedication and effort.

Married to her husband Gene for over 56 years, she shared a love that was complete and encompassing. Her support of family and friends was both dedicated and unwavering.

Margot leaves a grieving family including husband, Gene, daughter, Beth, son Paul, his wife Staci and their two sons, Alexander and Nicholas. She will be remembered as a wonderful person who loved them all completely.

A private memorial service will be held Sunday February 7 at 10AM and will be available to stream online at the following link: https://admin.oneroomstreaming.com/email/view/5d2f2e89f1

  2. Margot was the best. Growing up, she always treated me like I was one of her own. I stayed with Margot and Gene for a month when I was six, in 1970 and it was the best month ever. Margot was always so much fun. Her excitement for crafts and projects was contagious. She and Gene let me eat more Cheerios than should ever be allowed.. At 21, I found myself
In a tricky situation and Margot and Beth picked me up in downtown LA, took me to their Northridge house and they took me in, no questions asked until I got back on my feet. Gene even bought me Cheerios.. Margot lived and loved with every ounce of her being and I will always be forever grateful for the kindness in her heart. A beautiful soul that will forever be missed.
