Obituary
Our hearts are broken and our spirits deeply saddened from the passing of our beloved brother, son, and uncle, Marco Marin at the age of 61. Marco passed away unexpectedly on November 22nd in the early morning.
Marco was born in Tripoli, Libya on May 13, 1962 to Italian parents – Gianfranco and Maria Marin. While there, he attended pre-school until unfavorable political circumstances and internal strife in the country forced the family to leave everything behind and move to safety in Rome, Italy. While in Rome, Marco attended elementary and intermediate school where he excelled in just about every subject in the curriculum. He loved soccer and became an avid Juventus fan. He also enjoyed collecting and reading the Italian version of Disney comic books and exchanging them with his circle of local friends. In 1977, the family emigrated to the United States to pursue greater opportunity and also join other family relatives that had already established “roots” there after leaving Libya years earlier. Just after arriving in Irvine, California, Marco attended Irvine High School. While he did not speak a single word of the English language he somehow managed, at the age of 16, to immerse himself in it, and pick it up quickly, with the help of excellent teachers and a small circle of friends. He also joined the high school soccer team and became the varsity football team’s kicker due to his soccer background. After high school graduation Marco went on to college where he earned his AA degree from Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo and eventually a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from California State University Fullerton. Marco was employed for many years by an investment firm in Irvine, California where he served as a client/account manager for private equity investors.
Marco will be remembered by all of us mostly as one of the kindest, warmest, and most generous individuals to set foot on this earth. He always thought of others first before thinking of himself and was the most unselfish person that we have ever known. He lived his entire life by the biblical phrase “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Although Marco had numerous ongoing health issues that affected many aspects of his life he never complained or made that a subject of any conversation, with anyone, and always kept it private. Despite these issues he became the full-time caretaker of his elderly parents putting his own care behind that of his parents.
Marco is survived by his father Gianfranco, mother Maria, brother Fabio, and sister Tiziana, along with his nephew Anthony Marin and niece Isabella Marin. Rest in peace brother, son, and uncle and we all hope that we will see each other again in the Lord’s garden.
A “Celebration of Life” viewing (10:00am-11:00am) and service (11:00-12:00pm) for Marco will be held at O’Connor Mortuary located at 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 on Wednesday December 6th, 2023.
