Obituary

Lyta Lavonne Borland passed away on January 1, 2006. She was born in McCook, Nebraska on December 14, 1933 to Leon H. and Alvina M. Weyl. She lived in two small Nebraska towns until she was 5 years of age. Lavonne attended kindergarten at Alcott School before moving to Brush, Colorado. She attended first through fifth grade at Central School while in Brush, then the family moved to Denver. She lived there until completing high school at South High.

Lavonne enrolled at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. from 1951 to 1952 where she met Robert L. Borland. They were married on December 28, 1952 in Denver. Their Air Force career took them to eight different locations from East to West coast over 30 years. She enjoyed the role of an Air Force officer’s wife for 30 years, which demanded a diplomatic, supportive, and social presence. Retiring to beautiful Monarch Beach, a place she fondly cherished. Lavonne’s many interests included her love for family, home, camping and the local community. She also enjoyed entertaining, traveling, golfing, reading, bridge and community services. Lavonne was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her positive attitude was contagious.

Lavonne is survived by her devoted husband Robert; loving children of four and their spouses: David Theodora Borland, Santa Fe, NM, Douglas Trudell Borland, Lancaster, CA, Janet Pratt, Sandpoint, ID, Daniel Heidi Borland, Irvine, CA.; five grandchildren; Tara and Andrew Pratt, Kellie, Jennifer and Shane Borland; beloved sister Gwen; brother-in-law Bill Hurd. Lavonne has several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in her passing by her parents; Leon H. & Alvina M. Weyl, a daughter, Kathryn L. Borland, and an Aunt; Lyta W. Stewart.

A Memorial Celebration in Lavonne’s life will be held on Sunday, January 15th, 2006 ~ Noon 12:00 P.M. at the Laguna Beach United Methodist Church on 21632 Wesley Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. A Reception will follow immediately at the Fellowship Hall.

A private Interment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, California.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Lavonne’s name to the Laguna Beach United Methodist Church, 21632 Wesley Drive, Laguna Beach, California 92651 ~ 949 499-3088.
